5.33 crashes trying to play a song

MSI GA-K8N51GMF-9 (S939)
AMD64 4000+
3gb RAM (2x1gb DDR400, 2x512mb DDR400)
XFX 8800GTS 320mb
Windows Vista Business (x86)
Winamp 5.33 (from 5.32)
DirectX10

After upgrading from 5.32 to 5.33, Winamp crashes as soon as I try to play a song! It adds music to the media library and playlist fine, however selecting a song on the playlist or using Jump to File makes it crash instantly (no Winamp error message, simply the Windows Vista crash reporting window).

It also didn't remember my preferences like it normally does when you upgrade, had to reconfigure everything again.

Hope there's enough info here! Cheers

Ok i've fixed this problem... I had to set Winamp to run under Windows XP SP2 compatability mode.

Sorry, but we can't reproduce the problem.
Are you using any 3rd-party plugins?

Ah yeah, I'm using one, "Live Messenger Status", this worked fine on 5.32, however.

I have the same issue. As soon as I try to play a song, both version 5.33 and 5.34b crash. On the beta it also says that it cannot run the error reporter.

Windows XP SP2
Pentium 4 2.66GHz
512 RAM
Avance AC97 Audio

Running a compatibility mode doesn't work, and I'm running no third-party plugins (I even uninstalled MusicMagic). Hopefully this can be fixed, because I miss Winamp!

We can't reproduce the problem. Try a clean install.

Just uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work, however opening regedit and removing everything Nullsoft before reinstalling works a treat.

A clean install involves deleting the %programfiles%\Winamp folder before reinstalling (and also the %appdata%\Winamp folder, if it was a multi-user profile setup).

There's not really anything Nullsoft in the registry (at least nothing created by Winamp) other than the Winamp Pro key, if registered.

I have this EXACT same problem:
I am running Windows Vista

Adding files to the playlist or library works fine, but as soon as I try to play anything it crashes, with only Windows' error message.

Now I have clean reinstalled Winamp... And it seems to work!

It MAY be that playing with buffers in the output plugin causes Winamp to die in Vista. If so, It's extremely annoying because I want to enable gapless playback

EDIT: Increasing the "buffer-ahead on track change" didn't seem to make any difference

This bug took a little while to occur so it may be that I am completely wrong...

Also, there are other things that seem to crash Winamp in Vista, like AVS presets and transitions (which seems to be random)
In general, Winamp is MUCH less stable in Vista than in XP, too

I'd be using amarok right now... if not for two main problems:
1. It's not available for Windows (and Linux requires too much effort on my part to get working, atm)
2. It does not have the huge range of plugins currently available for Winamp (I don't know how I managed without the Jammix Enhancer plugin)

I used Linux and Amarok and fell in love. Amarok2 is coming out and it will support Linux Windows and MacOS. I'm excited as all hell.

Hi, this is kinda related to this..
my ML (Media Library) has gathered alot of files.. mp3 video..
whatever.. but for some reason at somepoint it made recent.dat/recent.idx files with no data in them..

well there are data .. ($00) byte filled.. i have no idea why theese files were created like that... my media library still works all files there.

the scary part of this bug is that it really kills your computer slowly
it did for me.. really scary bug..

i got the idx/dat files if you want to reproduce.

I have the same problem in Vista Ultimate. I install Winamp, using default skin, MSN Now Playing plugin, 4front EQ plugin. Works fine for half an hour and crashes upon playing a song (or if it's already playing, just randomly). Not sure if its exactly half an hour, but it seems around the 30-45 minute mark. Clean install (after Registry Mechanic) works again for another period then same thing happens. Kind of annoying to have to go back to WMP11 because the MSN plugin works better on Winamp than in WMP (kind of funny that Microsoft's own software isn't as good as user made software...shoulda seen that comin I guess) and the EQ is superior as well.
