Audio fade on pause

It seems Winamp 3.0 lost a (trivial) feature from Winamp 2.8.

In 2.8 when you hit pause, the audio fades out gently, similarly it fades in gently when resuming play.

With 3.0 the audio stops/starts abruptly.

I had gotten accustomed to the "gentle" way Winamp 2.8 handles this. I searched through the preferences but can't find a way to enable the smooth audio feature. Am I missing something, or is this just something that got lost from 2.8?

First download/install the official wa3update patch.

Then... CTRL+P to open Preferences
Scroll down to Audio > DirectSound
Highlight DirectSound and press your right arrow key on your keyboard. This will expand the options under DirectSound to include (among others) Fading.

In the right panel CHECK the checkbox to the left of "Enable fade on Pause/Stop". See red arrow in attached screenshot (directsound-fading.gif)

You can also download/install the Configurification Registry component for more options.

Thanks! I had a feeling it was in there somewhere.

I tried the Configuration Registry and while it installed properly, when I bring it up I can't see any of the parameters (but I can see the settings, i.e., checkboxes and edit boxes on the right side). I have installed the update.

OK. You did not "expand" DirectSound Output in the Configurification Registry. That's why you do not see the advanced Fading options.

In order to expand items in Preferences OR the Configurification Registry, you must first download/install the official wa3update patch for Winamp3.

Then while "DirectSound Output" is highlighted in the Configurification Registry (you will see a + sign), press the right-arrow key on your keyboard.

You will then see 2 more options expanded under it...
Compatability
Fading

Highlight Fading, and select from the bizillions of settings there for Fading. See attached screenshot (configurification-fading.gif)

Actually I didn't see ANY parameter names in the configuration registry at all, just the values.

I determined it was the skin. I switched back to the default skin and then was able to see all the elements in the configuration registry.

Thanks for your help!

Hmm.. that's strange because the configuration registry looked all messed up in various skins until I switched back to the default skin when everything looked fine. Before installing the configuration registry I installed the update. I was sure that for whatever reason the alternate skins did not properly handle the drawing of the configuration registry.

Oh well, I'll just move on, happily experiencing my fade-ins and fade-outs
