Is Shoutcast TV gone?
I just downloaded and installed the latest version of the free version of Winamp. I usually use the Shoutcast TV plug-in but all that is showing up now is Shoutcast radio. Has the TV part been shutdown? Thanks.

What link? I usually just open Winamp and choose ShoutcastTV under the online services options on the left. When I installed new version, that option is no longer there. Just ShoutcastTV radio.
Thanks |

I also cannot find ShoutcastTV.
I see 20 online services, but ShoutcastTV is not in the list. |

old Winamp installers will not help get it back as it was controlled server-side. and yes it has been removed which understandably has / will annoy some people but usage of the service was minimal (just like the number or more impotsntly the lack of streams) and has been that way for a long time e.g. its not been provided as a default online service for a few years so the writing had been on the wall for some time - just the same as the nsv format it was using which hasn't been officially developed / pushed for 6-7+yrs so none of this should be too surprising.

NSV stations can be and still are still listed on the Icecast Directory.

i only see 5 on there which seems to reinforce how irrelevant now NSV is (though is 2 more than what's listed for Ogg Theora...).

So even older Winamp versions w/o Shoutcast TV added are simply out of luck? Is there any way we can rectify this?

the in-Winamp view was controlled server-side so it was Winamp version independent, so going back to an older version will not help to get it back (and before someone suggests it, the 2.x / early 5.x view doesn't work either [which used a different method to what has now been removed].
as such, the view was removed due to a number of reasons which cannot be gone into and that's all that can be officially said on the matter. and finally, the removal doesn't prevent the playing of those streams, it is purely the discover aspect which was removed, so v5.65 will still play those streams as long as you know / find the links to them. |

It's a pity, that SHOUTcast TV has been removed as online service, but there are ways to find the streams also in Firefox, Chrome & Co. I have made 2 new postings about that in Facebook & Google+.
Here I have 4 links, but the fourth one is very old, many streams will not work anymore: http://dir.xiph.org/by_format/NSV http://dir.xiph.org/by_format/Ogg_Theora http://www.scvi.net/tvpls.htm http://devilsradiotv.site40.net/win/ I don't know, which streams of my .m3u-file "TV Streams 2012" will still work (3rd download-link): http://www.lastfm.de/user/SabineKlar...sts_for_winamp There are less SHOUTcast TV Streams now than 10 years ago. Spring 2011 I had discovered "electrosound.tv", but 1 year later they had changed the server and this stream disappeared, while the "Mystery Science Theater" seems to be still available. Fortunately I have made enough photos from some DJ Live Shows in "electrosound.tv", and the Facebook-User just need to scroll down in "Photos from Sabine"... ![]() Sabine Klare Aka Sternenmaschinebine Music, Art, Lyrics, Videos AMBIENT... how valid the details of what is attached are i don't know (is from the only backup of the sctv listing i've been able to find) - that's all i can provide for things and you use it at your own risk i.e. if you enter one of the porn streams and are offended, it's not my fault / problem.

hey DrO,
kinda related Q: in online services, shoutcast radio is listed, and its by "Shoutcast" if you click that, you see two identical looking shoutcast radio apps to add, one with lots of users and a review, and one with less users and no review. are they in fact identical? and why are there two instances of seemingly the same app? (I assume its an oversight but figure its worth checking/bringing to your attn) PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

i believe they're the same thing and must have been something left over from testing of things early on (though not too sure). i wouldn't worry much about it.

Hey,
I setup a page that allows you to still see all current video streams @ http://thugie.nl/streams.php - it gets it strait from the shoutcast server but alters it so it works normally in a browser |

DrO is that last post "legally" enough? If all is OK with it I'm thinking maybe would be good to add it to cPro quicklinks..

Well i ain't sure who DrO is but if a moderator rather host it,
I wouldn't mind sending them the source, or if they would like some changes to the page, they are easily made by request. I do warn there is no cache system, will add it soon though. Also the code is not pretty nor commented, I simply wrote it so i can click and play any stream i want ![]() |

The only reason I used the updated versions of Winamp was for Shoutcast TV. Now that Shoutcast tv is gone, I can go back to using Winamp 2.9 ,since it will no longer make any difference. And 2.9 is so much better, And so much more reliable. Winamp 5 was nothing but bloatware anyway. Glad to be rid of version 5. But sad to Shoutcast TV gone.

well good for you but 2.x is notably buggier than 5.x as 5.x is 2.x with the bug fixes and it's very very easy to make it be like 2.x by using the 'lite' install type or paying attention to the options during the install and not installing the 'bloat' as you put it (which is how a lot of other users viewed SCTV as being bloat itself).

Oh c'mon I can have my own preference of my favorite version of winamp. Don't get all bent out of shape over it. people do have different personal preferences than others. Not everyone marches to the same tune.

Op2mus,
The easiest way is to load the individual station addresses into winamp using copy paste. However In a few weeks Shoutcast will be closing down permanatly. Scenic Television is your ambient window to the world - - www.ScenicTelevision.com |

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release.
Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years. http://www.winamp.com/media-player/en I got it straight from the notification. Scenic Television is your ambient window to the world - - www.ScenicTelevision.com |

which relates only to Winamp which is why it is on the Winamp site and not SHOUTcast (which is a separate entity).

If shoutcast is seperate,
Is the reason they stopped shoutcast tv, cause it was part of winamp aka nsv ? Nullsoft video ? associated web services, what does that include exactly anybody knows ? As it mostly states web services, the install app etc aren't exactly web services right ? |

SCTV was dropped because it wasn't deemed worth keeping things up for it and was decided on before any of what has now happened (as it's not been a default install option for a few years).
NSV was initially a Winamp item but then got took on by another internal team and then got canned almost a decade ago. anything to do with NSV has been lucky to stay around. "associated web services" means anything derived from winamp.com like the online services page or the podcast directory node, etc. hence why i've done work to allow for them to use an alternative service, i just need to finish documenting how to use them with alternative services. |

Hey DrO,
That really does explain a lot to me, Thanks for clearing it up. Still loving nsv myself though, just hobby stuff and for when i am bored. Shock to me finding the tv directory to be removed from shoutcast and trying out alternative solutions all seem to be quite bad.. Might just stay with shoutcast just hope the people that watch know where to find it haha. Btw, i noticed there is a replacement forum for winamp, not sure if its ran by you but since its in your signature i might as well ask. Are you planning on porting all forums.winamp.com posts to that one ? Of course original author access will be lost, as you cant exactly verify if the actual person is that person etc. But still there should be options in ripping/leeching them, not sure about the right wording for that. |

have you tried the "lite" ver? I use it for SC radio broadcasting. if there are valid reasons to pick 2.9 over 5.666 lite, I'd like to know what they are. If you still want to stream TV, I think Videolan can stream anything it can read. You might actually have to build it. If I remember there is a shout option (needs to be compiled in) so the channel will access Icecast. You might want to stream webm instead of NSV. It also will create html5 compatible streams so you can embed them in a web page and play without a player on current browsers including mobile browsers. (not with NSV).
NSV's encoder isn't well threaded so no matter how many CPU cores you have it's just gonna use one. Also it's doesn't like modern video cards very well. It also has the nasty tendency to lose audio sync. |
