Winamp 5.55
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows XP sp3
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel E2180
Memory: 2GB RAM
Sound: built-in Realtek ALC883 on ASUS P5K-VM board

problem:
Internet Explorer 7 doesn't close properly after it has been launched via Winamp. More precisely, it closes fine, but the process "iexplore.exe" stays hanging in the Task Manager until killed manually.
It ONLY happens with Winamp.

how to reproduce:
Start with IE7 closed and Winamp closed.
Open Winamp, right click its interface and click "Winamp Help" or "Nullsoft Winamp", the "About Winamp" window will appear.
On this window, click the link "visit www.winamp.com" at the bottom.
It will launch IE7 to Winamp's site.
From there, leave Winamp open and just close IE7.
In this case, "IEXPLORE.EXE" process is still there in the Task Manager although it should have been terminated when closing IE7. -> bug confirmed. Winamp process doesn't seem to want to let go IE7 process.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Yup, your original report from last year is still in our internal bugtracker.
Alas, we've not been able to track down the cause of the problem yet.
Edit #2: Okay, we've found it! Will be fixed for the next release :-)

Hello DJ Egg, I've updated from 5.55 to 5.551 but the bug I reported is still there (first report on page1).
You said it would be fixed for next version (at that time current was 5.55) ?
Later,

@Alcahest
5.551 was just a security update patch.
The only difference was a patched libsndfile.dll.
By "next release", I meant 5.56 (or whatever version # the next main release is).

Winamp 5.551
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: Dutch
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
Locale: Dutch
CPU: E8400
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Sound: C-Media 8788

Problem:
When I open a mp3 with Winamp, it plays fine. But after closure of Winamp, and immediately (in 2 seconds) start another mp3 with Winamp, I get always an error, but the error may differ. It always has something to do with the RPC-server or something to do with "the connections of the called object with the clients are lost" (roughly translated from Dutch to English).

Reproduce:
Easy, just start an mp3 with Winamp, then close Winamp and immediately start another mp3 with Winamp (or the same, doesn't matter).

UTF8 characters are not showing correctly

Hi guys,

Winamp 5.551 Full
3rd party plugins: I have only the live messenger "now listening" plugin installed, but this happens even when I disable it
Language Pack: default (english)
Skin: doesn't matter

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit en_US

Problem:
The Winamp window title cannot show unicode characters.

Reproduce:
Open an mp3 or flac file or something, tag it with Japanese characters (you can copy-paste this: 宇多田ヒカル) then play that music and see what happens.

Screenshot:
http://fleet.4242.hu/tmp/winamputf.png
I made red/green marks on the picture to see what's wrong and what's not.

the preview image 'issue' is known. see this and the part about thumbnail.

as for showing ??? in the taskbar title we really need to see a list of plugins (as requested in the first post) since there's a lot of 3rd party plugins around which haven't been updated to work with Winamp to prevent this issue and even though you say you've disabled the msn plugin you've not stated if that was a complete removal off the dll from the winamp plugins folder or just an option in the plugin (if the later then it's going to be that plugin causing the issue).

I did a clean install previously, so there were no other third party plugins, just the ones wich come with the Winamp installer, so at this point I'm correct.

Oh. So at this point, I failed That was an option to disable the plugin, but you're right, it was still active it seems. Deleting the .dll solves the problem.

Sorry for bugging you, I have read the instructions, just thought that simply untick "Enable" would be enough Have a good day.

Winamp 5.551 (5.5.5.2419) clean install
Skin: or all
Windows XP sp3 Portuguese(2070)
Any Hardware
DirectX 9.0c

There is a bug in the Equalization Preset List:
- Saving an equalization into the same preset name duplicates the name in the preset list and doesn't save either.
- The preset that has the same name is just a copy of the first one, i.e. it has the same preset settings.
- Deleting a duplicated preset, elimitates all presets tha have exactly same name from the list.
- This duplication of equalization presets sometimes creates an ghost preset that has no name.

I guess no one has reported this, but if someone already did it, accept my apologizes.

Crash on System Shutdown

Using a fresh install of Winamp 5.551, english language, System is an Asus Crosshair (NForce 590 SLI) with 4 GB OCZ RAM and an AMD Athlon X2 6000+, Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 x64 US-English, GeForce 8800 GTS 512 with NVidia reference drivers 181.71, Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Champion with driver version 2.18.0008.

1) Install WinAmp
2) Launch WinAmp
3) Press the Power-Off button

Result: WinAmp hangs and prevents the system from powering down. The UI becomes completely unresponsive and WinAmp can only be closed using Process Kill from the Task Manager.

This bug happens 100% of the time and must have been introduced in one of the recent versions. The last version I used was 5.5.4.2165 which didn't have any problems responding to a system shutdown.

Windows 7 isn't supported yet

I cannot reproduce your issue under WinXP/2000. Shutting down windows is just working fine, when Winamp is running.

-Winamp 5.551 - Upgraded
-Winamp Language Pack used (English)
-System specs (Dell Dual Core X6800, 2 Gig)
-Windows OS, Vista SP1
-Video Card, nVidia Quadro
-Sound Card, EMU 0404 USB
-DirectX version Who knows
-Detailed step-by-step method of reproduction (eg. numbered list)

This release is running terrible for me.

The main panel is consistently corrupted.

If say I sort The Top Rated View by album and then start clicking songs. What you click on it not what you get !!
When you click the rows the text is replaced with the correct item.

Scrolling has "Paint" issues with half of one line from one place and the other half from another line.

I have tried to rescan folders etc.

I started to look at J River which is solild as a rock. But I hate the way it keeps mucking with my library (which I sync with another computer). I like the way WinAmp leave the library alone. I also like the DTS/AC3, AutoPuase plugins. But boy this release is a mess.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
We can't reproduce the problem. Post in Tech Support intsead and include your List Of Plugins.

WinAMP 5.551 - Three Individual Bugs

WinAMP 5.551
Region: North America, English
Hewlett-Packard "Compaq Presario" R4025US, AMD Single-Core Athlon64, 2.75GB DDR-1
Compaq/Hewlett-Packard Win32 XP Home SP2, Upgraded to: Win32 XP Home 5.1 Build 2600 (SP3)
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
------
5.551 BUG - Recursive tags when broadcasting feedback of own DNAS stream
When purposely playing one's own stream output in order to produce feedback, WinAMP recursively appends the tags sent back by the DNAS.
WinAMP should ignore tagging when feed-backing one of the streams it is currently broadcasting.
Otherwise, WinAMP ends up repeatedly sending the identical tags at a rapid rate, over-and-over, causing royalty/fines chaos.
---
1. Confiure DNAS to append station identity to tags.
2. Open WinAMP 5.551
3. Configure Encoder.
4. Configure Output
5. Broadcast to own DNAS
6. Play a track with id3 tags.
7. Play own DNAS as current track.
8. id3's will recurse endlessly and rebroadcast the same track info within per feedback loop.
------
5.551 BUG - WinAMP broadcasts tags of tracks not currently being played
In 5.551 when the deejay is broadcasting a stream, if the last track in the playlist has been played and playback ceases due to not being in loop nor shuffle, once that track is deleted from the playlist and the songs are still in the same order in the playlist, WinAMP will falsely send the tags of the resulting last song in the playlist, even when not-nor-intended-to-be played.
This may result in royalty/fines chaos due to repeatedly sending the same tags with the deejay entirely unaware of this behavior.
WinAMP should not update the tags in the broadcast until the track with the tags begins playing.
---
1. Open WinAMP.5.551
2. Configure Encoder.
3. Configure Output
4. Broadcast to a DNAS
5. Load playlist of 4 or more multiple tracks.
6. Turn SHUFFLE and LOOP off.
7. Play starting at second to last track.
8. When playlist ends, delete last two tracks from playlist.
9. id3 of new last track in playlist will broadcast despite not being currently played.
------
5.551 BUG - WinAMP does not store encoder codec settings between sessions
WinAMP has ceased to store encoder codec settings between sessions.
WinAMP should remember each encoder's codec.
---
1. Open WinAMP 5.551
2. Configure Encoder 1 Codec to "MP3 / 44100Hz / 96kbps / Stereo"
3. Close WinAMP
4. Open WinAMP
5. Encoder 1 has reset to default.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
The SHOUTcast DNAS server and DSP plugin aren't even included with the default Winamp distribution.
Please post in the SHOUTcast forums instead.

WinAMP 5.551
Clean install
Classic skin

Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit
Core 2 Quad QX6700
4GB RAM
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZX

Problem:
WinAMP is unable to play extremely short files. A file that is only a second or so in length will not make a sound, though WinAMP thinks it's playing. This is true even with fading turned off. Tested with .wav and .mp3 files.

Reproduction:
Open a Very short audio file. No other steps required.

Cause:
It seems to be related to the DirectSound Output's prebuffer. If the file is shorter in length than the prebuffer setting, WinAMP never starts to play it. I would guess WinAMP is waiting for more data before it begins, even though it's already reached the end of the file.

Workaround:
Reduce the length of the prebuffer.

WinAMP 5.551
Clean install
Classic skin

Windows XP Pro SP2 32 bit
(1) Intel Atom (Acts as dual core)
(2) Intel Core Duo

(1) 1GB RAM
(2) 3GB RAM

(1)+(2) Realtek Onboard Sound

On two PCs, both multicore processors or at least acting as two cores (in case of the Atom processor, which only has HyperThreading as far as I know), the following links from my Bookmarks cannot be played.

Winamp simply freezes. Closing it via the "X" works, but it remains in the Task manager - it even seems to load something, because my LAN led blinks very fast.

Winamp.bm excerpt
[...]

http://metafiles.gl-systemhaus.de/hr/hr2_2.m3u
hr2
http://metafiles.gl-systemhaus.de/hr/hr3_2.m3u

[...]

It only happens on these two PCs (Netbook and Notebook). So I guess it has something to do with multi core?

WinAmp v5.551 freezes

WinAmp v5.551 (x86) - Mar 9 2009
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows XP Professional sp3 (5.1, Build 2600)
Locale: English, U.S.A.
Pentium 4 CPU 2.20 ghz
760 mb RAM
Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphic Controller
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A05
Dimension 2400 motherboard

No error message. WinAmp freezes. Occurs when two or more .wmv files are loaded into the playlist and when the second .wmv file is played. The ONLY function that remains operational is double-clicking one of the .wmv files to play and that .wmv does play; no volume control, cannot X close, cannot move WinAmp windows.

Open WinAmp.
Load two or more .wmv files.
Play a .wmv file.
Play another .wmv file.
WinAmp freezes.
Must use Task Manager to close WinAmp.

WinAmp will open again fine and will play multiple .mp3 files fine, no problems. I have isolated problem to multiple .wmv files.

EXAMPLE .wmv file:
File name: ColeDesperado02-13-09
Duration: 0:03:46
Bit Rate: 705 kbps
Dimensions: 320 x 240
Protected: No
Size: 18.9 mb

This problem is NEW with WinAmp v5.551. These .wmv files played without any problems in previous versions of WinAmp. WinAmp v5.551 has somehow become "unfriendly" with .wmv files.

- Winamp 5.551
- no language pack
- Centrino 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM
- Win XP sp3
- ATI Radeon 9700
- Realtek AC'97
- DirectX version: 9.12.0589.0000

Hi guys,

the problem is with a lyrics plugin (gen_lyrics.dll).
It worked perfectly in the previous Winamp version; now each time I open the "View" menu a new " Lyrics Alt+Y" entry is added again and again and again...
I've got tons of this menu item now!

To reproduce this just install the plugin and open the View menu many times.
I can replicate the problem with various different PCs.

is down to the 3rd party plugin to update itself to be compatible with fixes to issues in the winamp core itself -> as discussed here. so you'll need to contact the plugin's author to get a fixed version

CPU runs @ 100%

I Have 2 Identical Laptops. Having the Same Issue since 5.551

Winamp 5.551 (build 2419)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Vista Home Premium x64
Locale: English US
CPU: AMD Turion x2 x64
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 3200
Sound: IDT Audio (Integrated HD Audio)
DirectX v10

Problem:
Winamp.exe Runs at 70 to 90% CPU Usage after Scanning watch folders.

Method of Reproduction:
I Have all MP3's Stored on a Ubuntu Server. Via a Samba Share for the laptops.

1. Open Winamp
2. Click Library
3. Select Re-Scan watch folders (in background)
4. wait till done. and Bam, CPU Usage kicks up until I exit. Once I Exit and come back it in runs great until I have it re-scan. Now this could of happened Prior to 5.551 I Just noticed it doing it today as I was updating my laptops with new music I had just copied to my server.

Side Notes: I deleted my Library (on one Laptop) and had it rescan and Re-Build everything. And now I cant seem to Duplicate the Issue. but the Issue Still remains on the Laptop that I didnt rebuild the Library. So this Maybe a Work around to whatever the problem could of been. Its hard to Pinpoint this one.

Im Not Running Any Plugins Other than what the Defaults are at Installation.

This problem is NEW with WinAmp v5.551. These .wmv files played without any problems in previous versions of WinAmp. WinAmp v5.551 has somehow become "unfriendly" with .wmv files.
I too am experiencing a similar problem. Previously I could watch a wmv file and just click on another wmv and resume watching a 2nd part etc., now when the 2nd wmv loads, I am unable to use any function buttons - no fwd or reverse, no audio, and I cant even close the program at the X close option. To close I have to go down to the menu bar rt click and select close. this was a clean install in english with full options. no other notable problems at this time. it opens promptly and plays with a breeze so memory isnt a noticeable issue. no 3rd party skins or any outside tools are installed

When ever I play a video file to the end and have it restart the buttons on winamp will stop working or should I say left clicking. Audio works fine but any video I try this will happen and i have to restart winamp to make them work again.

@freshhh

We can't reproduce the problem.

Please post in your own specific thread instead of repeatedly re-posting the same thing in all of the sticky threads:

See my reply there...

Can you reproduce my problem?

In the meantime I have asked many friends of mine to open those links in their Winamp and it all worked fine! But I also have tested it on another Asus EeePC 901 with Atom Processor and it also hangs! So it seems only to happen on these PCs, very strange!

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
Winamp version: 5.55x

Without any reason, the spectrum analyzer falloff speed is sometimes high and sometimes low significantly.
I've also noticed that closing Winamp and re-opening Winamp again doesn't change the speed. I do NOT know what is the thing that happens which changes the speed. It is NOT opening many applications at the same time that may slowdown the CPU. I have also noticed that restarting Windows can change the speed afterwords.
That does not happen with Winamp version 5.54.
I experienced that with Winamp classic skins, and I do NOT know if that happens with modern skins.

Windows XP Pro SP3
DirectX 9.0c March 2009
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz

After many tests, I found out that the spectrum analyzer of Winamp v5.55x in classic skins is faster when some other applications are running at the same time (such as Vuze 4 and WinUAE). Closing the other application sometimes makes Winamp return to its normal speed, but sometimes you have to restart Winamp to return to its normal speed.
I've noticed that it happens with specific applications (for instance: Firefox 3 does NOT affect Winamp).
Please fix soon.

Replay Gain Errors with Ogg Files

Winamp 5.552 Pro
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Big Bento
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic SP1, fully patched
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon x1300 card
Sound: SigmaTel High Definition Audio (embedded)

Problem: Replay Gain Errors with Ogg Files

I don't have many Ogg files but for those I have, Winamp isn't calculating replay gain values correctly. Here is a screen shot showing typical results: Typical Results

The next screen shot shows the Format Info data for one of the files prior to applying replay gain:
Format Info Data

Here is a link to one of the Ogg files for testing (no replay gain tags yet):
Sample Ogg File

The above links are temporary, and will be valid for month or so.

To reproduce, simply select an Ogg file in the playlist and send it to Calculate Replay Gain.

@retroman

I can't reproduce the problem with any of my many ogg files (but can with yours),
though mine are all at least 44.1KHz, 16-bit, stereo,
whereas your sample file is a very low quality, non-standard 11KHz, mono, 23kbps .ogg

Yes, please keep the sample file and other links active for now. Thanks.

id3v2 tag not read correctly by file information box

Bug report #1:
Winamp v5552 (and v5541) unified file info box

To reproduce:
MP3 files with id3v2.3 tag (probably other formats with id3) and a TDRC id3 frame from v2.4 is also present

In id3v2.3.0 the TYER frame type is used for 'year'. In id3v2.4.0 this frame type has been deprecated in favor of the TDRC 'recording time' text frame. The problem is this:

Case 1: Incorrect behavior in Winamp. If an MP3 has a version id3v2.3.0 tag (version identified in header, byte 0x03) and has both TYER and TDRC id3 frames, the year is not displayed at all. (TDRC should not be looked for and it's presence should not mess up correct reading of TYER if id3v2 tag is version id3v2.3.0 as indicated in the header) [optional - use or parse TDRC if it also appears valid]
[file: yearbug-both-v230.mp3]

Case 2: (Correct behavior in Winamp). If an MP3 is id3v2.4.0 and has both TYER and TDRC id3 frames, the TDRC is read as the 'year' (TYER is disregarded)
[file: yearbug-both-v240.mp3]

Case 3. (Correct behavior in Winamp). If an MP3 is id3v2.4.0 and has only a TYER id3 frame, the TYER is read as 'year' (correct 'fallback' on deprecated frame)
[file: yearbug-TYERonly-v240.mp3]

Bug report #2:
Winamp v5552 unified file info box

To reproduce:
MP3 files with id3v2.4 tag (probably other formats with id3) and using TDRC 'recording time' text frame type.

Incorrect Behavior in Winamp:
TDRC is not parsed for data - the full plaintext of this tag is displayed inappropriately in the too-small 'year' box. TDRC is not parsed to extract just the 'year' or 'date'.
[example file: yearbug-fullTDRConly-v240.mp3]

Background
The format of the TDRC is an ISO 8601 date. It is used in this format:

yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss

It (and other 'date' id3v2.4 frames) can be of arbitrary precision, so these are also valid:
yyyy-MM-dd
yyyy
and even yyyy-MM-ddTHH

A 'T' character seperates the date from the time.

The 'T' character between date and time should not be displayed to the user, but it is in winamp. In addition if 'year' is shown in the file info, it should be just a year. TDRC if present would ideally be shown as 'date/time recorded' instead of just year.

TDRC 'Recording time' is the canonical substitute and equivalent for TYER. Other 'date' fields are also specified in v2.4 and could be displayed if present (or substituted for TYER if only they are present):

TDRL 'Release time'
TDOR 'Original release time' (used for example if TDRC is the release date of a remastered cd, this is when the original came out)
TDEN 'Encoding time'

To create your own mp3 file to recreate bug #1 above (with LAME 3.98.2):

code:
lame -b 24 --tt "Title" --ta "Artist" --tl "Album" --ty 2009 --tv TDRC=2009 input.wav output.mp3

(lame currently creates id3v2.3 tags)

To create your own mp3 file to recreate bug #2 above:

code:
lame -b 24 --tt "Title" --ta "Artist" --tl "Album" --tv TDRC=2009-12-30T10:30:00 input.wav output.mp3

Then hex edit the fourth byte of the file (id3v2 version) from 0x03 to 0x04 to force detection of tag as v2.4.0.

Another note - times in v2.4.0 tags are UTC - local timezone adjustment should be done for date/time if displaying the full time in the info box.

"year" Field of Media Library not populating correctly

Winamp 5.552 - April 10th, 2009
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows XP SP3
Locale: English US
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT
Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio
DirectX v9.0c

Problem: Year is not correctly read into media library after scanning music. Most tracks in my library show no year, even though a year is stored in both the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags. When I view the file details in Winamp, it will show a year for the ID3v1 tag and a blank for the year field in the ID3v2 tag. However, multiple other programs have verified both tags have the year field. Clearing the library and re-scanning has no effect. Re-reading the metadata of a file has no effect.

Method of Reproduction:
1. Install Winamp 5.552 clean
2. Add tracks to library
3. Click on "Audio" in the Local Media section under the Media Library panel on the left
4. Observe year field is empty in lower pane of the individual tracks

Screenshots proving issue:

Copy of sample file, though this problem appears to exist for about all MP3 files in my libray

Bug - No Remote Media

Winamp 5.56 (build ?? can't find)
Problem occurs after upgrade to 5.56 and after clean install of 5.56, no 3rd party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
Locale: English US
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Memory: 512MB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Sound: Realtek onboard
DirectX 9.0c

Problem:
See for full info - http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=2536574

I upgraded to 5.56 from some 5.x version, not sure which but it was maybe a year old. Then when I tried to access Remote Media and log in to the screen that appears in the winamp browser, winamp crashed completely. This happened twice. The third time it started to show some of the next page but just stopped and the progress bar kept moving like it was loading but nothing happened. Then I clicked on Local Media on the left and Winamp crashed. Sorry, I didn't save the windows dump details.

I then did a clean install following instructions on this forum and used default settings and the Remote Media choice on the left is completely gone now. I have been using it for quite a while to access music on my home computer from another computer but now I can't after the upgrade.

Method of Reproduction:
I'm not exactly sure this will reproduce the error on everybody's machine as I don't see the bug here already but here it goes:
1. Clean install 5.56
2. Look for Remote Media in Media Library section, it's gone...?

Winamp 5.56 clean install (same in 5.551 and 5.552).

Steps to recreate:

- Switch to Bento
- Click Help -> About Winamp.
- Move the mouse to the volume slider and wait for the tool tip to appear
- The "About" box will first loose focus
- Now move the mouse around in the Bento window some more.
- The "About" box will soon dissapear all of a sudden.

(I think it is still there but it is in the background).

Winamp 5.56

During uninstallation ( So that I can do a clean install testing ) Elevator.exe does not terminate so I can remove all the file from Program Files\Winamp.
