winamp shutting down message

Hi guys, any help on the topic would be great.
up until a couple days ago, my winamp was working perfectly fine. i have no idea whats happened, but after a few minutes of opening winamp. a message is displayed and winamp closes. i thought the problem might go away if i installed the new winamp 5.21, but that was no help either.

the message is:
ASSERTION FAILED
Expression: dest !=src
File: \sandbox\20060310_122525\Wasabi\bfc\std.cpp
Line: 393

Any ideas on whats happening would be helpful.

Please provide system specs. Especially, are you using any third party Winamp language packs, plug-ins and/or modern skins?

1gig
384mb ram
Rage 128 pro
creative audio (sound card?)
windows xp pro service pack 2
DirectX 9
winamp 5.21 pro

plug-ins incl:
oddcast DSP v3
msn music plugin
notify plugin v0.5
wave out output v2.1

Does this happen with a particular modern skin?

If you temporarily disable the third party plug-ins by moving them to another folder (while Winamp is not running), do you still get error.

This has been reported several times (see this search) and apparently a full uninstall > reinstall (AKA clean install) of Winamp seems to resolve the issue.

i have the default modern skin.
i completely uninstalled and then reinstalled. seems to have done the job. but reinstalling without uninstalling first didnt get it working again.
