Microsoft is bringing Windows desktop apps (good ol' Winamp) to mobile ARM processors

Seems like the best Winamp news / christmas gift this year is brought by.. Microsoft! (now I definitely have a good reason to buy a Win10 phone / tablet!).

yeah, when you have your "new" windows fone docked to use as a desktop then you can run apps like winamp, once they finish it. It's like running windows on your computer but through your fone.

Current status of Winamp: (Winamp 5.8) is not an ongoing project get wacup

5.8 beta issue quick fix - Install 5.666 (there's no further 5.8 releases)

If you mean Continuum, is not the same. That allows you to run your phone apps into a big screen, but you're limited to what your phone supports; if it's a 7" screen tablet / phone (or anything less), it won't support desktop apps, it will only support Universal apps (which is not clarified enough by MS if you ask me).

Instead, this new "feature" will allow you to install on your phone any desktop app, 32 bits desktop apps (originally called "programs" ), from Ninite to Adobe Lightroom. Just like that, directly on your phone, independently if it's a 5, 6, 7 or 13" screen device.
Of course, this new feature is framed on a business deal with Qualcomm, so it will have to be supported by their new processors (so they can sell their newer models..), but the world of possibilities it opens is incredible..

Oh yeah, but the way it works is like wow64 for windows x86-64, where it runs x86 (32-bit) programs in a form of emulation to work on 64-bit systems (the emulation is why IA-64, er itanium 64, or windows xp 64-bit edition couldn't run 32 bit programs.)

Supposedly what it does is it "emulates" win32 coded programs to run under UWP. Now I am not saying that on a fone it couldn't run winamp via that way, but I wouldn't be surprised if microsoft restrict that because of how the app would look. Hence why they showed photoshop working on an ARM processor, but they shower that in continuum, or desktop mode, I can't picture how it would be on your fone screen.

It's all beta now but I like where they are heading and who knows maybe you can eventually have your winamp player on your fone, but only time will tell.

And I am sure someone (looking at you Victhor ) will create a skin that will be flexible for both.
