what will happen

What will happen now that the patent has changed, and now requires a payment to be made, in order to de-code mp3?

Meh, people will still manage to circumvent that liscense, so those greedy Germans will still get shafted.

I may have to switch to vorbis. But, I've also got an archive of every winamp since it's first public release.

"Welcome to the Island of people who know too much."..."Did you really think balloons would stop him?!"
See what I'm listening too.

eek. this doesn't sound good. I hope this helps the world move to vorbis at least.

ummm...im not a legal person or anything...

but wouldnt all encoders and decoders that were compiled before this change was made be protected by some sort of grandfather clause. therefore, not having to pay...as long as we use the old software.

hence the link

can't people just use current/past unliscenced decoders without a fee? or will they be covered by the liscence (i assume this is what will happen)
