It could possibly smooth out the edges of skins that use 'region.txt'.

New modern skin is nice

Load times increased twofold (very nice) and the temp WA folder created in C:\Documents and Settings\mrk\Local Settings\Temp is no longer created also the modern skin VS refresh rate increased greatly, it no longer feels too "slow"

Great work guys!

Look at the rate of bug-fixes/optimizations that have been made in the last 3 versions of Winamp5. This is the reason why going the route that they are taking with Winamp5 is better, at the moment, than Winamp3 would've been for competing with other gaining mp3 players (iTunes, foobar) and also Winamp5 is more suited to the average user's preferences for a media player (low resource using, uncluttered, and is not trying to push every little bit to be component based and going for what works best.)

Looking good Nullsoft!

Yay, they added the "Rescan media folders" button to the ML! Now I really don't need iTunes!

Nullsoft, keep going for better features to do common tasks quicker and easier, better design will always win over eye-candy (iTunes, foobar(hah just kidding)) in the end.

Make sure you grab one of the aebrahim optimised builds from the Firebird forum. The SSE2 optimised build loads just as fast, if not faster, for me as IE.

Back on topic: well done nullsoft. Another fine release.

/me still holds out hope for 2.4 tag support

I'm using Direct Sound using Hardware Acceleration btw with version 4193 (July 2003) Release Candidate drivers

That would be a completely un-reproducable bug not even worth reporting.

Can beta 2 be installed over beta 1 without problems or should beta 1 be uninstalled or deleted before installing beta 2?

To use the crossfader button/slider, do I need to use a WA3 skin,
until the WA5 skin supports it?

Wow. Winamp 5 Beta 2 is working flawlessly. I created a 7780 item playlist in it from scratch with no issues, and it's even reporting the total play time correctly!

I love the windowshade mode on the Modern skin

Papadoc if you want crossfading, go to preferences, plug-ins, output, direct sound output, fading tab and play with the settings.

Full ID3 2.4 tag support. AFAIK, Winamp 2.x/5 only supports 2.3.

Just make sure you have stop error reporting on.

In WinXP, Start --> Control Panels --> System --> Advanced Tab --> Startup and Recovery.

Check "Write an event to the system log" and unceck "Automatically restart" so you can grab the stop error.

i've actually had a STOP error with winamp5 before, and i too have a santa cruz (well, a sonicfury, but it's the same chipset) sound card. maybe this needs to be looked at in more detail - i have to admit i blamed overheating at the time.

Small little cosmetic bug: On the modern skin if you open the config drawer, and go to color themes, and go to the last theme, Varsity. Click the next button, and it goes to the next theme, Bloods, but it doesn't scroll all the way up until you click next again.
Just thought i might say that.

Jap characters still don't display correctly in Modern skins even though I played with the Internationalization options.(Shows up correctly in file info screens though)

Why is there no function to search/jump in the playlists in the Media Library?(Its either playlists in ML or in the playlist window for me, not both)

Thanx

Just to be a little clearer, the most important bits (for me) are:

Quote:
IPLS - Involved people list
This frame is replaced by the two frames TMCL, 'Musician credits list' [F:4.2.2], and TIPL, 'Involved people list' [F:4.2.2].

TMCL Musician credits list [F:4.2.2]
TSST Set subtitle [F:4.2.1]

Well, since most of my collection uses the new frames (in particular, the Musician credits list' and 'Involved people list) in 2.4, I beg to differ. A lot of songs these days are remixes, compilations, or feature more than one artist, hence the need to seperate thos involved in production and the actual musicians.

I am not asking for it to be a priority, but unless there is some particular reason to not implement it, it would be nice.

Edit: Just to clarrify, I am not asking for Winamp 5 to be able to edit these new frames, but the ability to read and display them would be ace.

Yes. If it wasn't for the fact that converting my existing mp3 files to ogg would mean quality loss, I would do it
