Hopefully the realease is soon. It's already in a much more mature state than ANY release of Winamp3. We need to get this thing out pronto so people visiting winamp.com will stop downloading winamp3 which is just... ugh :P Well, I'm sure it will be better in time, but it's been out like, what, well over a year with virtually no new release apart from minor bugfix/security ones.

I'm very pleased with WA5!

turn off crossfade?

Could anyone tell me how to turn off crossfading in winamp5? In 3 there was the button on the main window, but in 5 i cant seem to find it anywhere...I *really* hate cross fading and i really wish it wasnt on as default

in the next release of Winamp 5 (beta or final) there will be a crossfader control in the eq drawer, but for now you have two choices:
1. right click > options > preferences > output plugins > DirectSound Output > configure > fading tab

2. download any Winamp3 skin (eg. MMD3) that has a crossfader control or the Winamp3 default skin will work too.

Plan:
November 10, 2003 @ 10:55pm

T minus 10. days that is.
Could this mean that Winamp 5 is coming out in 10 days? I would hope so. Then again it's very seldom, not only that we see accurate release dates, but that there is any important talk about Winamp 5 in their .plans. He could very well be saying "ten days left until i see Radiohead in Romania" or "ten days left until [some vacationy thing].

@DJ Egg, SarCaSM & amano : if it's not on by default, how come it always turns on when I reinstall/upgrade Winamp? (w/o uninstalling previous ver., of course!) I've always thought it IS on by def. and I've always hated that :/

I'm guessing when Winamp 5 final comes out the whole site will get revamped, ending this 2.x/3 schism, or at least putting the 5.x side out front.

When that happens, the Winamp 2 forums will just become the Winamp 5 forums.

And I think Winamp3 is becoming the "Wasabi Player" or something like that.

the wa2 forums will convert. Like some giant religious thing.

The real answer: wa5 is an update of the wa2 core, thus the wa2 forums get converted.

question for anyone who has the authority to answer:
i normally use nero to make my audio cds. will winamp (whatever designation) have these similar capabilities:
1. overburning
2. ability to edit pauses between tracks
3. normalizing tracks

Does the current beta do?

AFAIK Nullsoft is NOT developing the ripping and burning abilities. they licenced this stuff from another company (veritas I think). So probably not even the Nullsoft guys can tell you. I would stick with nero since it is great and full featured.

Assuming you have XP, bring up the task manager. You can get it by right-clicking in the task bar and picking it off a menu or by pressing <Ctrl-Alt-Del>. Go to the "processes" tab. If not already sorted by name, click on the name column.

Winamp3 shows up as "studio.exe." I'm playing music now and with the small viz thing in the body running, it sometimes takes as much as 5% of the CPU for a short time. It's usually 0% though and averages out to maybe 1%. In windowshade mode, it always 0% (2.4GHz P4, 512Meg)

If you run AVS, that will take more CPU (obviously) but it's pretty effecient too. I just started AVS and with a mode that makes it display both in the window and as your desktop background it's taking 36% of my CPU (at 1600x1200x32bit)

"Winampa.exe" is the Winamp Agent in the system tray. It takes a little memory and hardly ever any CPU.

I also like to set the "Hide When Minimized" option on the Task Manager and then minimize it. This leaves a CPU meter in your system tray.

Er, that's true, but nothing to do with this thread (or even the forum). Winamp 5 == (Winamp 2)++ != winamp3

If you're using Win2000/XP you can bring up the task manager by using the taskbar like dwilliss said. Winamp is the unimaginatively named winamp.exe. Processes are sorted by PID (a unique number given to each running process) but you click on the "Image name" heading to sort by the program's name, then you should be able to find winamp's row very easily.

If you're using Win 98/ME you're out of luck. There are a couple of shareware imitation task managers on the internet, but none of them have per-process CPU usage listing (I think it's technically impossible in fact).

What skin are you using? I think it only does this for freeform skins.

I see what you mean, this does seem a little buggy in the 20 secs I played with it (I normally use classic skins so I don't know how this performs in general). Try clicking on winamp then focusing on a different program, this tends to set it off again. I think it intentionally stops scrolling if you click on the title itself, so you can drag it left or right.

A quite modern reply, I think...

To blackstripe and all others complaining about slow internet browsers: Download Opera, it's the fastes and most coolest net browser ever made.
Download from http://www.opera.com.

Yeah! When is the media library query feature coming to Winamp 5?
------------------------------------------------------------------

And what about a skinned Preferences dialog like in Winamp3. Could possibly skin it like the media library (owner drawn buttons, edit boxes and other controls)
------------------------------------------------------------------

Do ya ppl, like my coding style in the forums?

I see someone is using a manifest file...

Opera also got a notes system. Mark some text in a web page or edit box, click copy to note and you can then later on paste this note by right-clicking and selecting the note from a popup menu.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, and if I forgot: I just love Opera!

Richer API/SDK for Winamp's Media Library?

I just finished my plugin for Winamp 2.x or 5.x that allows the user to control it with their voice. I call it SpeakToMe, but I don't expect to see it available in the plugin section anytime soon since the file size is around 15 MB (used to be 50MB). The plugin allows the user to call up a playlist based on genre, artist or album in the media library. However, in my program I have to read directly from the media library file because I can not count on media library to be running. It only loads at startup if winamp was last closed with it open. Also, the sdk is more for additions to the media library and not really for accessing the existing library.

What I want is a media library that is available to general plugins without having to read the database directly from file. It really doesn't matter though as long as the file format doesn't change. Man! Figuring out the media library database file format was lots of fun.

You can check SpeakToMe out here:www.umr.edu/~iaegx6/SpeakToMe/.

winamp 5 is awesome!

just thought i'd express my feelings for winamp 5 so far...

it's all around great but i gotta mention some of the highlights, at least the ones that i like the most...

i'm liking the skin support, finally it doesn't take all day to load a skin (winamp3 ), plus backwards compatability for the old skins... which is going to be great for those friends of mine who have gotten used to the old layout and never change for the better

don't know how many knew about this feature but... i love the feature to make an html playlist with just the click of a button!
(under Misc group, or Ctrl+Alt+G) try it out!

quite a small sized program download considering what you are getting! (i'm thinking of other programs which are huge downloads yet give similar results as WA... like WMP or even iTunes now that they have a Win32 port) except i remember the days when winamp was able to fit on a floppy disc

and finally a media library that works!
