What's so wrong with statically linking the runtimes?
Because it increases the filesizes/installer. Search the internet and you'll see tons of people complaining about bloat as it is.

You cant always alter perceptions, but you can prevent them getting worse.

Hi Winamp crew.
There is an issue with the On Screen Display when playing videos in fullscreen. Most of the time the OSD doesn't show at all, sometimes is totally messed up (showing all text in Webding font), sometimes the video progressbar is at the bottom and the top at the same time. This has been an issue many versions now, since 5.06 or something like that.

System specs:
* Windows XP Pro SP2
* Direct X 9.0c
* Winamp v5.2 Beta, build 393
* P4 2.6 Northwind HT
* ATI 9200 128mb, resolution @ 1152x864, driver v5.12
* 1024mb RAM
* No 3rd-party plugins.
I don't know what more info could be useful, I got a new motherboard and soundcard a while ago but this has been a problem long before that.

I hope you manage to fix this.

Keep up the good work.

Which wave? One, or all? There is a completely new wave decoder (AFAIK) so some rare files might not work.

Wave playback in 5.2 is vastly improved. Infact, you'll find it capable of playing back many more variations than previous versions. Why not upload a sample somewhere that doesnt work? I suspect something else is afoot here than your rather rubbish bug report.

Can you open the wav with GSpot and see what it reports (either in the Audio or the Stream Type and A/V Interleave field)?

i have the same problem.

this time WITH example!: ctkatz.trybalink.net/cbscfb1.wav

as an addition, not only does it not play, it deletes itself in the playlist as though nothing is there.

That file contains mpeg layer-3, simply rename it to .mp3 and it'll play.

Technically they are wav files (they have a riff header).

thank you,I rename XXX.wav to xxx.mp3,winamp5.2Beta can play it.
When I used old version winamp like 5.13,it can play XXX.wav
need not rename this file.

I will find other WAVE files let you test.In my computer of WAVE files above 30MB can't upload here(too big).

Yes,I add these wave files to winamp and play it(not direct click files to play).
But winamp 5.2 Beta can't play it,good night.

Older versions never played files like that either unless you'd add wav to the directshow extensions list (maybe you did that?).

wav files less than 1 second (like the various operating system beeps and such) are nigh impossible to play.

Update: Same error when I try to install/reinstall Winamp 5.2 Build 393.

I have this problem since the installation of IE7 beta 2 public preview. But, except this problem, all works fine!
Update²: No more problem with Winamp 5.13 and Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Public Preview. All works fine!

It doesn't seem to be a good idea to let different beta software interact.

Afaik, that's related to ml_pmp (devices support) and should be fixed for the next build. In the meantime, you can download & place msvcp71.dll into your %system% (eg. Windows\System32) dir (or install latest MS.Net to get the full msvc71 runtimes).

I did put msvcp71.dll from another app in my winamp dir and that solved it. However, I didn't install the device support, so must be coming from somewhere else. It occurred as soon as I opened winamp and actually has been an intermittent problem with even the release versions.

Yeah, the Winamp dir will suffice too.

Hmm... the plot thickens.
I don't see msvcp71.dll loaded under winamp exe in my process manager/explorer.
At a guess, do you have ANY other 3rd-party plugins installed?
(note, the 3rd-post in this thread states that you are meant to confirm a clean install with NO 3rd-party plugins) ;-)

Yes, it was a completely clean install. I had just restored my disk from a Ghost image in fact. So there weren't even references to winamp in my registry. I also have the .Net framework 2.0 installed.

That's not true. I have Winamp 5.13, and WAV files containing other compressed formats (such as MP3, ADPCM, etc.) play correctly through in_wave.dll.

I hope the new 5.2 will also support those WAV files (so-called ACM Waveforms). Renaming them to MP3, for example, is not a good solution as you will create a non-standard file! (Mp3 with Riff-Header!!)

So you would make it even worse if you did so! ;-)

WAV files containing compressed formats are absolutely standard and must be supportet also in the future! At least i hope so!!!!

Hmm, yes, both the sample from ctkatz8086 and the ones from http://www.geocities.com/airwolf74205/battles.html play in a clean install of 5.13 (but weren't there ones that never played, or were those missing the header?).

MSVCP71.DLL is definitely being called. Possibly it's gen_ml.dll that's calling it.

Strange. It's not in my list. But that could be because I'm using internal build 395,
so maybe it's already been fixed, heh.

[Edit]

Yup, just had it confirmed that gen_ml was calling msvcp71.dll in build 393
but is no longer calling it in the internal build.
So we can class that one as fixed. Thanks.

First, thanks for the great new features and fixes in 5.2.

I did a clean install of 5.2 build 393 and found a bug that's been in Winamp since 5.0.

If tags for a track are changed from inside the media library, the upper two panes (artist and album) don't automatically display the changes.

The only workaround that I've found is clicking "Remove Missing Files from Library", which manually updates the tags. Is there a way to have this automated? Thank you.

The quickest way would be to switch to another view and back again.
Also note that it's more a feature request than a bug, heh.

Re: new in_wave

Yup, libsndfile doesn't support embedded mp3 in riff wav's (mp3 with riff header).
Old in_wave would use system acm codecs if required, eg. FhG L3CODECA/P.ACM
but new in_wave just uses libsndfile library.
Sure, I'd class this as a problem, but maybe benski can come up with a fix/workaround
or maybe there's a way to pass those files onto in_mp3 or in_dshow...?

Ok, I'll be looking forward to the next build.

It would be fine if there would be a way. Why not just pass them to the system's ACM routines?

Since just passing them to in_mp3 would make no sense - I, for example, don't have a single RIFF-Embedded MP3-WAV-file, but dozens of RIFF-embedded MS-ADPCM and IMA-ADPCM-files (Adaptive delta pulse code modulation, an old [non-psychoacoustical, but also non-linear] audio codec).

If 5.2 doesn't play them (without having to add WAV to the DirectShow extension list), then I think I' won't upgrade to 5.2.

But - okay..it's not yet the final, and hopefully it will be fixed/implemented in the final 5.2. I'm looking forward to it.

Hmm, you've lost me now.
New in_wave handles adpcm perfectly. Are you saying it doesn't?
What I was saying was that in_wave should just pass mp3 with riff header
(ie. kinda equivalent to an mp3 with a .wav extension) ONLY onto in_mp3, not all WAVs. Heh.

Can you check the exact format of the WAV file you have that wont play and crosscheck that its supposedly supported according to the site that egg linked earlier:

http://www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile/

Alternatively, making sample problem files available for download is always appreciated.

[edit]

something like:

$IfStrEqual2($fileext(%filename%),mp3,%artist% - %title%,$filepart(%filename%))

which will show "artist - title" for mp3 files only, and filename for all other extensions.
Thanks for that. I've noticed something else since turning ATF on though. It seems to be formatting MP3s without ID3 tags (i.e. both checkboxes deselected in the ID3 tag editor) too. Where is it getting the artist/title from if it doesn't have an ID3 tag? I wanted MP3s without ID3 tags to just have the filename displayed (it reminds me to add a tag!). So in short, I only want MP3s with ID3 tags to be formatted.

Thanks

Probably something to do with these settings:

Prefs > Media Library > Library Options tab > Modify Settings button:
Use Library title information for Playlist Item Formatting

Prefs > Media Library > Watch Folders tab > Configure button:
detection mode when metadata missing: smart | simple | no guessing
(ie. you probably need to checkmark "no guessing")

Note: Those settings have been in 5.x since near the beginning, and are not 5.2-specific.

Thanks. I've selected 'no guessing' and it's back to how it was before.

I probably didn't notice because ATF was off previously.

Thanks again

Insert a CD with data and audio tracks
Go to CD view in ml
Probably the first track will show as data track and the others as audio tracks:
*Double-Click the first audio track
Winamp will play the second audio track
*Double click the data track
Winamp will play the first audio track
*Double-click the last track
Winamp won´t play... (probably this is the data track)

Ripping:
Winamp works fine, if u select the data track winamp show an error message, and the first audio track/last will be ripped as firts/last...

I can´t remember but I think this bug exist in any version of winamp 5, not only in this beta...

Any version of winamp 5 (5.2.393)

Hi there

I had no time to read all posts in here, so if this is already here, then sorry.

There is a problem since 5.12 I guess, and it was still there in 5.2 beta, that if in XP I log off with winamp open, it does not save it's playlist, just if it was killed. Next time I open, there is an old playlist from erlier times.

Also about multiuser feature: winamp should create a new equalizer preset database (winamp.q1) in the user path if it is not there, because if a new user is added to the system, it has no equalizer presets at all.

And how about the feature "find new channels on exit" in media library. It takes very long for winamp to close with no internet, so the new session can not start. I think it should be off by default, because many people have asked me about this "why it starts so long".
