With regards to previous reports of WinAMP tracks stopping at random points, I have experienced similar issues streaming BBC podcasts. Of course, this could be network related, however I notice that the track appears to stop in a similar way as described above (almost as if paused), so perhaps they are connected?

Cheers,
James

Does anyone have any problems with "Always On Top" not working? Anytime I open Winamp, it no longer stays on top of other windows. The option for it is checked when I right-click, but I will have to un-check it and then re-check it to get it to stick (or use Ctrl+A).

This happened in prior versions as well. The only extra things I have installed is the DFX and Toaster plug-ins.

Playlist when minimized - unicode

Great work on the unicode support.

It works fine in the playlist when it is open, but when minimized (1 line height), it just shows blank space where the title should be and just the time.

Is there any way to fix this, or is this a known bug?

LOL... I had this problem too - unticking "Disable always on top while in fullscreen apps" in the general preferences section solved it for me...

@ all

Please only post about 5.25-beta-specific issues in this thread. Thanks.

Also, please read the first post again, particularly the Notes and bold text at the bottom. Vague, non-descript posts with no proper details or method of reproduction etc are pretty useless and will probably just be ignored.

Sorry Egg... Do you have a timeframe for the final release yet?

As for issues - I'm experiencing rather slow smart-view loading, whether it's just viewing in the media library or double-clicking on a smart view to play it...

Nothing earth-moving or horrible, but definitely noticeable - Going back to 5.24 made it faster again... bit strange.

Doesn't seem to matter what the query is, the less complex ones take just as long...

i think i found something... or maybe im doing something wrong...

half of my library is japanese....

for example, one of the artist names is モーニング娘

but it comes in winamp like ƒ‚[ƒjƒ“ƒO–º

am i doing something wrong?

okay, just in case some of you dont have support for japanese.... its just not showing japanese symbols at all, or its just messing them up.... kinda jumbling them...

and it wont play the files at all... itll just keep skipping the files til it finds one with no japanese symbols in it...

edit for the third time... okay, i can play these files directly from explorer with winamp... or add them to the playlist from explorer... but the media library doesnt seem to...

Did you bother to read the Notes (after What's New) on the very first page of this thread before you posted just now?

I guess not...

Notes

The Media Library (Local Media & Playlists) still doesn't support unicode, so either don't add files with non-latin characters to the ml, or uncheck "use library title info for playlist item formatting" in Prefs > Media Library > Local Media.
Unicode support for the ML is planned for the next major release.

Umm, which skin are you using? Winamp Classic or Winamp Modern?
Clean install of 5.25 beta, with no 3rd-party plugins?
Windows OS?
What language are the filenames/tags in question?
Got a zipped link to a sample file?

Unicode characters in pledit winshade works fine for me (see attached screenshot).

Other than the ML, the only thing that doesn't display them correctly for me is the text in the taskbar icon (not sure if that's an OS thing though, 'cos I don't have support for those languages installed).

Hi,

Winamp Modern skin,
Clean install, no 3rd party plugins,
Windows XP Pro,
Japanese,
Sure, link is: http://www.paulsynnott.com/test.zip
It happens on ALL Japanese files though, screenshot:
http://www.paulsynnott.com/test.png

ETA: It works in the classic skin, but not modern.

I just wanted to add that I have full Japanese language support installed in WinXP, so that isn't the problem.

The encoding for 5.25 beta is not working properly. In the Scrolling Title part, where it appeared as weird characters before, now just simply became blank.

Hope it can be fixed.

Thanks for the decision to include unicode support though.

You guys need to make sure the skin font is mapped to a good unicode font so the text will display properly. The best one I know of is Arial Unicode MS and comes with Microsoft Office. You can also use Bitstream Cyberbit or Code2000. These should be able to display just about any song title you can find.

Yeah menno, there is a point. Winamp should be set up by default to produce MP4 files which are backwards compatible.

Compatibility should be the first goal for winamp (as for most programs).

An toggling a default shouldn't be that hard.

I appreciate the 5.25 beta link. My bookmarks were freezing up constantly and it was VERY frustrating. I downloaded the 5.25 beta link and it fixed the freezing problem. OMG...it is sooooooooooo nice not to have that problem any more...TY Now I can enjoy my Winamp radio again.

Holy crap... I'm getting a massive problem here.

My Winamp was just running normally (been on for about 5 hours now, running non-stop), and the playback just became VERY weird. There's a strange buzzing in the sound, it's very distorted, and it's playing the songs back at roughly 2x normal speed!

Switching the output to my other sound card in the Directsound options didn't work either, sounds the same... what's going on?

I'm running 5.25 beta with only a few vis plugins installed and gUSB - it was running fine until a few minutes ago, and I didn't touch it, wasn't even using the PC at the time... All other sounds play fine, including the very same MP3 files using Windows Media Player.

What's going on?

-edit-
It seems only some MP3 files do this, guess they're just encoded weirdly... Wonder why they play normally on WMP then though...

-edit2-
Here's a link to one of the files...
http://simonbroenner.dyndns.org/files/pov.mp3

I'm trying to record what it sounds like over here...

-edit3-
Here's that recording...
http://simonbroenner.dyndns.org/files/sample.mp3

-edit4-
It seems that most songs from one album are affected... but since they're my roomy's mp3's I have no idea how they were encoded - looks like 128kbit cbr crap...

That file is actually an .mp2 not .mp3

It does? That's weird. I'm gonna do another clean install and see if that clinches it...

How can you tell it's MP2?

-edit-

That MP2 thing was a stupid question. Did the clean install and it's still weird... I just hope those're the only MP3s in my library that're going funky - because I'm pretty sure they used to play fine...

-edit-

just reinstalled 5.24 and now the files play fine. It's DEFINITELY a 5.25 issue, reinstalling 5.25 brings it back...

Are you sure you tested with 5.25 Build 787, Egg? (Dumb question, probably... lol.)

Strangely enough - smart playlist loading times are now off the charts in 5.25 all of a sudden - double-clicking on a smart view (that's already active, loaded in the media library) to play it is taking up to 30 seconds - compared to roughly 0.5 seconds in 5.24...

I just switched back and forth between 5.24 and 5.25 a few times, and the difference is like night and day - everything concerning the media library is faster in 5.24... VERY noticably...

You'll have to do better than that, because we can't reproduce the problem.
I've just let it play 3 times in a row, with no problems whatsoever.

Re: MP2
It says "MPEG-1 Layer 2" in File Info
(which I gather you've already worked out).
And yes, EncSpot says Gogo Encoder, 128 cbr.

Have you tried renaming to .mp2 ?
Is 'allow 24bit' checked in Prefs > Playback?
Any difference with it checked/unchecked?
Are 'fast layer eq 1/2' & 'fl eq 3' enabled in in_mp3 config?
Any difference with them checked/unchecked?
Using WaveOut or DirectSound Output?

And no, I'm not using b787, I'm using a newer build,
so if it is a 787-specific issue, it could already be fixed
(as is the case with your smart view loading issue).

That all said and done... it always helps to read the Notes in the 1st post first

I've tried renaming to MP2, checking/unchecking ALL of the options in the playback preferences (24bit, dither etc.), switching to waveout (using dsout at the moment...).

I'll check the in_mp3 stuff right now.... gimme a sec, gotta reinstall 5.25...

-edit- As for the smart list issue - awesome, you guys rock :-D

The in_mp3.dll settings are on: logarithmic EQ, fast layer 3 eq and fast layer 1/2 eq unchecked. Checking them, as well as switching to linear EQ, doesn't change a thing...

Incorrect working of option "When loading multiple files, sort by filename". For example such dir (ascending order):
#DUMMY.MP3
01 - Set 1.mp3
02 - Set 2.mp3

After checking this option became:
01 - Set 1.mp3
02 - Set 2.mp3
#DUMMY.MP3

P.S. Winamp 5.24 also has this bug.

- Enqueue in Winamp - not working
- Spectrum analizer is slowing down when i play some mp3s (it's perhaps have a connection with scroll title in main window)
- Winamp is slowing down my system sometimes (especialy Opera an FF)
- strange Hi-light of broken files :/ it's hi-lighting only a length of file

and that's all

Sorry for my bad English

6. Hi-lighting of playlist entry currently broken for queued files (jtfe related).
this also covers the missing files hilighting since the beta build here breaks how the jtfe plugin worked. the newly released 0.97.7 build of the plugin fixes this issue as long as the required winamp.exe is available (as the internal/final build provides).

That's "broken"? I actually thought it looked better with only the right side highlighted instead of the whole line... but I guess that's just me ;-)...
