pmp_ipod for iPhone?

I suppose I have to ask. With abu stopping development of the ml_ipod plugin for the new iPhone, are there any plans to attempt to incorporate iPhone compatibility into upcoming versions of pmp_ipod? I'm sure since people have obviously got it to work (else we wouldn't be using ml_ipod right now! lol) it is more doable than doing it from scratch... I would really, really hate to have to go back to using iTunes for my music.

Thanks in advance

Bad news I'm afraid.
The latest firmware update breaks it again
This will now require a whole heap more coding to get it working/compatible again,
and I'm not sure if we can do that in time for 5.56 release

iphone 3.0 firmware

I haven't updated music on my iphone in for ever, I hate iTunes that much. I used to use mlipod myself but it appears to have broke when i updated to the 3.0 firmware.

mlipod.sourceforge.net/wiki/IPhone_and_iPod_touch_support

I've always enjoyed using winamp, it still is the best free mp3 player around and I don't ever expect that to change. Hell I've never been one to purchase the Pro version, but I might just have to do that if you have native iphone support built into the software. Think of it as a big thank you.

I look forward to seeing future native support for the iphone.

That's ok, I'm sure we'll all be happy if it makes it in eventually! I'm curious though - what did you mean by the latest firmware update? Were you coding for firmware 2.2.1 before?

firmware is the software that any device (in this case ipod) use to run and/or decode programs and/or music so that you can view and/or listen to them on that paticular device
every so often the company creating the device has to put out a patch (just like winamp with their software) to either fix a security flaw or to make the device run better
every time they do this the software developers of other player (like winamp) have to rewrite the code for that player so that it will recognize the device correctly
in this case apple has put a new firmware on the iphone is 3 and the developers for winamp were still working with the 2 series like you said basically makeing them have to start from scratch
also @dj is there a way to correct the glitch with the way songs show up on the ipods when using the pmp_ipod
on nano the songs show up out of order compared to the mlipod when you go into the songs menu on the ipod nano

(edited grammar)

thanks rob

daamn, was really hoping to see this.

doubt they'll have to "start from scratch" but apple definately did something to screw up non itunes syncers in the last update.

Egg, are u working with other programmers facing the same problem to try and come to a solution together? ie. Doubletwist windows has this prob too. It'd be nice if everyone could work together to stick it up Apple.

Apple, WE FUCKING HATE ITUNES, JUST LET US BE FREE FFS!

Ruxton,

In the meantime, I've been using CopyTrans Manager (http://www.copytrans.net/copytransmanager.php)

Supports iPhone 3GS and iPhone OS 3

Credit where credit is due: these guys were good on this update!
