Cross posted at the other board:
http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/01/aol...tor-radionomy/ Techcrunch says it's a go for both WinAmp and ShoutCast, deal closed by Friday. The search for the ultimate signature continues apace. I have journeyed from the peaks of Nepal to the depths of oceanic trenches. I have crossed deserts, jungles, swamps, savannas, steppes and frozen wastelands. I have consulted with seers, swamis, sages, scholars and savants. The peregrination proceeds purposefully. |

It's pretty much clear that they are interested in Shoutcast.
But Winamp will stay alive? |

So, let me put my crystal ball in front and just say.
SHOUTcast server? Has a pretty questionable future. Radionomy is basically a radio station aggregate service. It needs the broadcasters tied in closely and I don't know how a seperate server makes that easy. Winamp? Maybe nostalgia will be enough for them to keep some part of it going. I definitely think they would want to keep the apps that have been built for SHOUTcast. -Jay | Radio Toolbox.com |

I wonder if they'll let our powers-that-be (Craig, Egg, Daz) retake the reins of the forums. Here's hoping...

Well this is good news I hope... Even nullsoft.com changed over to new name servers... I just hope this is a good thing for winamp as well. Not justo shoutcast. It could mostly be to just bring the 50000 or some shoutcast stations over to boost their existing business. Which still leaves winamp in limbo for the most part. But hoping for the best.

For all practical purposes Nullsoft is Winamp/SHOUTcast. These 2 properties were their most valuable assets. I doubt AOL has much interest in an empty website with abandoned school/personal projects from 10 years ago.

As long as Winamp will play the stations in their current catalogue, there is no problem.
Imagine seeing an extra section in the media library next to the shoutcast, or all in 1. It should not matter what network or format the audio is in. If Winamp gets a Radionomy plugin, then Radionomy get a huge boost in user-base. |

Now i hope that this dosent mean that winamp is gonna get bloated like Itunes is. I want my winamp as it is with my Shoutcast. I fine that they want to take it into the future. But when i install a new version i want to be able to de select all the stuff i dont want. so i can keep it clean an good like i do now

My thx to radionomy.com for the takeover. |
