Whats so hot about Flash...?

.

I guess I dont get it...
why the major hard-on... for a lousey flash player ?

there are so many other alternatives out there
that work...and work very well..
with a little research...and a few code snippits
found all over the web...
here are 3 working examples
all are playing back a SC stream.

A couple of players here on this launcher
page...based on the WMP SDK

2 Cool Players on Custom Windows

OR....

Even Cool'r yet...
a free Java applet Player...
with a working EQ and stream titles

Java applet Player on a Custom Window

All of the above have been workin great....
for a long time..

LOL @ radiohobby haha

The major "hard-on" is the fact that flash 5+ have more of a market share than any other media player, plus its cross platform too, no os independant.

Players which i create iv used the java player, support for windows media 9+, real, quicktime etc, but we do need a flash alternative.

Its just the way shoutcast sends its headers, as live 386 works no problem in flash due to the way its streamed

Anyone care to hex and hack a shoutcast server, see if we can make it work, only option i think.

using flash as a navigation aid to control windows media player? lol this post just gets better. (sarcastic joke)

until adobe developers help to fix this problem, it'll be a while until we stream shoutcast through flash based players.

maybe even if AOL got a kick up the arse and upgraded the shoutcast server software so it sent correct headers, then the flash player wouldn't get so damn confused and treat it as its supposed too!

The Live365.com service works with flash and also streaming live mp3 via an icecast server works with flash, just shoutcast has to let the side down!

Nothing new for AOL then a take it?

Hi all!

I just want to say i've been struggling to fit embedded flash player in a browser.

This forum was one of the most helpfull to me and therefor you guys deserve my answer..

I'm happy to say i've done it. Searched to the end of the world , broke some tutorials, edited it and after weeks of struggling there was sound..

Testenvironment:

Serverside:
Apache/2.2.2 (Win32)
PHP/5.1.4 Server
Shoutcast server 1.9.7/win32
Winamp 5.24 pro
DSP Shoutcast plugin V1.9.0

Clientside:
Browser ( tested on IE and FF, both work )
Flash support

Instalation:

1) Unpack/Unrar
2) Compile the .fla file
3) Edit the push-stream.php to your needs

And open the swf in a browser that supports flash.

Enjoy..

It still doesn't go were I want it to go, but its a nice base to start from.. Have fun with it

The problem with this method is that you pass all of your streams through your website, this is terrible and if you use a vhost will get you kicked off the service or with extremely high overage charges. I cannot stress enough, use a server based solution or client solution do not use a webserver as a middle man for streaming.

True that..

I am really not bothered with the fact that it's running with a webserver in betweem and the use of more bandwith, cause i am planning to use it on my own machines and I'm not strangled with bandwith issues and so forth.

I saw a platform that only supports a swf file and set ups his own connection, but it wasn't stable..

Sorry for the inconvenience.
The server there’re placed on is onder the administration of some else. I told him not to delete the file in the future.

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if it was possible to embed this Flash Shoutcast streamer into a Flash Game? So that I can choose a sufficient station that suits my game well.

Any help would be great!

Thanks.

All right, I am a bit late with this...
I am using flash 8.
I designed a player that should read Shoutcast stream.
Works perfectly during the design and "test movie".
Won't work when trying "publish preview" or published to web.
Anyone knows WHY and how to do it???

THAT is the problem: called "Memory leak". In IE, Flash does fill its buffer to system crash. There is no way to flush the buffer, and Macromedia "has no intention of implementing a fix to this problem" (Their own words).
Since IE is the mass-user, if something does not work in IE, it is simply useless...
Pitty!
I have written a downloadable Stream Player (VB6), but you have to download and install it.

i have searched google for two days and have finally come up with something that works for my needs. i'm posting it here so that hopefully it can help someone else.

The flash player is known as the minicaster. There's a free version, and I believe you can pay money to get the flash fla files to skin it yourself. I have no idea why these pages have "URL submitted by user" all over instead of actual links. I can only guess that for whatever reason it is a violation of the TOS for these forums to post links which sounds pretty dumb to me, but whatever. Here is the link: http:/ /www.draftlight.net/dnex/mp3player/minicaster/

It's very straight forward in the setup. I've had some issues getting the little scroll bar that displays the title to display exactly what I want, but the fact it finally plays audio is good enough for me.

THE BIG CATCH TO GET IT TO WORK:

If your shoutcast stream is located at (ignore the space between the two // in the protocol part of the url. I had to put that in to avoid the url censor) http:/ /domain.com:5000/ and you set that as the mount point, the player won't play because it gets the html page instead of audio stream. If you set the mount point to http:/ /domain.com:5000/; then it will finally work!! I've tested this in firefox 2.0 and IE 6 and it works. I have no idea why it was so hard to find out about the semi-colon trick, but I finally found it mentioned in an adobe comments section.

I sure hope this saves someone a lot of time.

A few questions for you:

* Do you have this up and running somewhere?
* Is it broadcasting a SHOUTcast stream (not Icecast, Steamcast, or Supercast)?
* Are your webserver and SHOUTcast server on the same physical machine?

When I go to the Minicaster website, I don't hear the stream it's supposedly playing. I tried it in both FF2 and IE6.

raGTL is completely correct

yep, the FMP minicaster works just great, just like raGTL says a couple of posts above. the player can be found here:

www.draftlight.net/dnex/mp3player/minicaster/

and yep, there is a free version. it was easy to configure the embed and object markup and inject it into my MySpace page (myspace.com/sleepbotzz). i've been listening to my stream via MySpace for a couple of days as a test case ... works great in the Flash 9 plugin on WinXP for Firefox, Safari and IE. my stream happens to be transmitted at a lower-end & non-standard rate, but the worst that happens is a get a couple of minutes worth of double-pitch audio and then that clears itself up

the config file itself is simple as well. you can View Source my page and extract the config URL from the embed markup. i chose to use configuration over convention to make it easier to provide the example for others. there was no need to set up a cross-domain config for Flash as the minicaster site suggests

honestly, it's amazingly straightforward

We have also developed a flash player for our customers, with built in album art - you can check out a live demo on our myspace:

http://www.myspace.com/wavestreaming

Its a really good way of offering your stream to listeners as it allows maximum compatibility on different browsers and platforms, we've had some great feedback from our customers about it.
