On FDC -

It is a 10mbits burstable pipe on a multi-homed network. Not bad - as long as you don't try to push too much through it.

When you near about 8mbits, it starts to goof up, so I cut ours way back to ensure the integrity of the 56 streams we have.

well, they don't stop you from using the full 10mbits, if that is what you mean....they mean it when they say unlimited bandwidth. It's just how much camel you can shove thru the eye of a needle...

I tried to use the live talk to someone at the solid-gaming shoutcast provider. It didn't work. I tried to find a simple email link to talk to someone. I couldn't find it. I tried the help ticket...it didn't function. I knew there was a catch.

Try www.fast-serv.com I'm only using 24kbps but it sounds great and their customer service is awesome. They use paypal for billing and I think there is no minimum listeners. Go check there website to see their sample streams or go to my web site and hear the 24kbps that I have. http://www.pinoy-radio.com

their prices below

24kbps $0.50 **Best Value
32kbps $0.80
56kbps $1.25
64kbps $1.50
80kbps $2.00
96kbps $2.50
128kbps $3.00

So, no one posting here about problems with their servers and nothing new on Project Solid. Makes me wonder if I am the only one whos server has been done all day. Went down this morning. Went to Solid Gaming and asked in the forums and got a reply that the servers were down for work (wouldn't that mean that more people would be down than just me?). So now apparently they should be working again. NOPE Not mine. I try to connect and just get error on the dsp. I guess I am the only one who gets really shitty customer service and servers.

SKA: Sorry to hear you are having a rough time. So far it been up and working great for me. to be honest - I'm THRILLED.

I'm sure things will iron out, Ska. Have a little patience and ease up on the self-pity. I'm quite sure they arent targeting you for bad service and bad servers.

bauti1428,
Reference your referrel for fast-serv...I used to do business with them and my stream went down more than once during the busiest periods. Furthermore, I opened a topic on how often everyone's server was going down to see if I was the only one without mentioning Fast-servs name. When someone else responded having the same problems, it turned out he had the same company that I did. He mentioned there name and they retaliated by disconnecting his service.

I would not reccomend Fast-Serv to anybody.

Urbansoulnation,

I've been with fast-serv for 4 months now they went down on me ones which can happen to any hosting company. It didn't bother me plus I got credited with the 4 hours that it went down. That was probably way back you talking about, but I guess there service was improved with better reliability plus they gave me one day free to test it to prove them selves. Also when I signed up with theme they were the cheapest to offer a 24kbps for 50 cents although now a lot of them offer it at the same price I stick with them because I was a satisfied customer. I guess the best solution would be getting two different stream hosts so if the other one goes down you have a back up host you know what I mean?

Ok...but they cancelled the account of someone who mentioned problems they were having with them on the forums. Thats taking stuff way beyond standard business practice and making it personal.

That would be like GM cancelling a car loan with you because you publicly complained about thier products. This happenned less than 4 weeks ago. I'll do a search for the topic when I have time.

u.s.n. - nobody's server has ever been disconnected from fast-serv (to my knowledge) for anything other than abuse and the topic was probably deleted because it was resolved and everyone is happy.

There were several problems I had with Fast-Serv but they were all resolved to enough satisfaction that I continue to do business with them.

And I did do what I saw usn mention - I have a dedicated box for my website and one for my streams plus I have several providers that all stream the station. I keep a small private server to run the relays from and stream from two seperate DSL lines from my house. Once I get everything laid out it will be so redundant that if something does go down, it's unlikely anyone will notice.

Sorry everyone!

I have been offline for the past few days with PC problems, so I was unable to do anything with Project:Solid. However, I will have an update shortly with reports from Leesa Hayes (aka Mother Earth) from her experiences this weekend.

I'll post here when it's updated.

Thanks,
Chris

Prject:Solid now updated at www.9412.com/projectsolid.

You will also notice that the page now has a menu of previous dates of Project:Solid reports. It was getting way to long and as one person put it:

"I did go to the site ... just didn't read the entire "War-And-Peace-length" blog. "

of note:

I emailed Chris telling him good things I have experienced with Solid Gaming. Apparently Chris is only re-printing complaints. Too bad, i thought this was going to be an unbiased report. I guess I thought wrong.

Here it is AGAIN in PUBLIC, maybe you can try to be fair and balanced and reprint it

my experience with Solid Gaming...
John Whalen [jwhalen28@comcast.net]
To: 'chris@9412.com'

This is John from ambientzone.net

In my opinion, they were a little slow and unorganized with the initial order process (I, too, had to tell them 42 times how many slots and what bitrate) but once the ball was rolling, all went smoothly. I have so far had no problems or issues with the stream and so far they have made themselves instantly accessible via Instant Message for when I needed to have the SC restarted after changes were made to the config (which I was able to do myself via ftp)

so far so good!

John

fyi, when you reported re-buffering on Sunday, a simple email to them or an instant message would have revealed that they were also the target of DOS attacks for a period of time and it was resolved in a timely matter. due to the fact that I expressed an interest in what was happening, I was informed via instant message when all was well again. I've not had a problem since.

You know, this thing with the DoSses is getting downright ridiculous and infantile...don't these people realize it is classified as "domestic terrorism" and subject to 20 years in a Federal Slammer (and you don't get time off for being good, there...)?

also, I was told from Daniel at Solid Gaming that they have *3* EV1 servers and 3 EZZI.NET servers.

really, all this information is gotten by simply ASKING. without hearsay or guessing.

I hope I dont sound like a shill for them, but on the other hand I don't think it is very fair to be dumping all over them when so far they have been doing a good job. Looking for and creating flaws in them and posting them without proof isnt very fair at all.

well you gotta remember too, that if it was a bad part, not all places are open to getting parts, i myself have issues if a server goes down on a weekend if i dont have any spares in inventory, which i do now, but maybe they could all run out on the same day (dooms day thoughts come to mind)
