Control Panels are NICE, but to be honest they are a feature *I* rarely use. Once I have my station set the way I want... thats it. No touch.

But YES - Control Panels ARE nice!

Mileage varies on this topic...

I use a control panel to upload different intro files evey couple days. I would never bother an admin with this... =) Also allows me to relay dejays "on-demand" instead of giving them my passwords =)

I was just curious if any of you guys want a control panel for your shoutcast, and if yes, then what do you want on it?
I have just set up my server 20@96 $12.00/m at solid-gaming this morning.

I am a newbie and had no experience before, but thier stuff Dniel helped me so well and I could start casting very easily.

Couple hours ago, I found that intro.mp3/backup.mp3 are not working.

This is a BIG PROBLEM for me. Please make them work (Or I don't know how to do it?).

Regards,

Dabo,

you DO realize that the SHOUTcast forums on http://forums.winamp.com are not the place to request tech support from Solid Gaming (http://www.solid-gaming.net)...

...right?

jwhalen,

You do realize that I just answered to the Tech person from solid-gaming.

Also, I tried to let people know that the company doesn't offer the basic function of Shoutcast server which other hosting companies do. I mean the cheapest is not always the best.

I believe that my article will help others who are looking for new server.

....right?

did you? Funny, I saw him talking about a control panel and what would we like added to it. not "hey anyone have any problems they want to talk about?" If he asked THAT, then perhaps you would have answered him.

whats THAT supposed to mean? Doesn't offer the basic ... huh? Please go into more detail.

Signed up two days ago for a Shoutcast server. Haven't heard a peep.

I guess they aren't too excited about getting new business.

my server keeps going down, I post it in the solid gaming forums and they keep just saying the servers where down now their back up. If they were down, why is no one else having problems?

72 hours after placing an order, nothing.

I'm still wondering if anybody works over there. Chat says they're online, but attempting to chat times out saying no operator available.

Emails to sales/support unanswered as of now.

How long was it down for?

(they have more than one server, i do know that.. so not EVERYONE would be affected byu a down server)

for the record, early early Sunday morning (like 2am EST) my server was down for a bit... but it DID get restarted

yeah I noticed it didnt work too.

but the EMAIL to SUPPORT worked just fine when I had to use it yesterday.

I'm not going to apologize that i'm not having as many problems, but maybe you need to reflect on why YOU are having as many problems. I grilled someone (I forgot name) about why your server was down before and I was told that *you* had made some bad entries into your config that were preventing it from starting/running properly. This reply wasnt given to me in a malicious way (they werent talking crap about you, in otherwords) ... I was genuinely concerned. I'm just saying, perhaps they arent the best with customer support, but i'd give 'em HALF a chance, considering your server was maybe not set up right in the first place (through no fault of their own)

Have a great day!

no, it is not me. I finally figured out why I am having so many problems. It is because another person was sold the same IP as me. So we are both broadcasting on the same server. It's Solid Gaming that is the problem

Well I've pretty much given up on solid-gaming. Over a week and I never got confirmation of my order nor any answers to sales@ or support@. Now I see a post on their forums and also on the shoutcast mailing list of people who have paid and never gotten a server.

ok.

I wish I could have continued to praise Solid-Gaming, but the truth of the matter is: The past 7 days have been ATROCIOUS. I was unable to keep an uptime of more then 24 hours. at ONE point on Monday, my server was down for 29 hours.

TWENTY NINE HOURS.

I tried to maintain politeness and patience, and i was rewarded with 10 free slots.

Only to have my server go down AGAIN.

You can give me 34057 free slots, if my server is down IT DOESNT MATTER!!!

As I type this, My server is down and has been down since yesterday afternoon with no response in forums, no response from support email and no response via IM to Sean (the owner).

I declare Solid_Gaming a LAME DUCK

it MAY be solid gaming but it certainly isnt solid shoutcasting.

(chris: feel free to print this in your poorly updated PROJECT:SOLID)

and of course now over at Solid-Gaming's website (http://www.solid-gaming.net/), they have removed ALL posts in their forums of people complaining that servers are down.

Thats fine. I'll just keep posting

gonna make PayPal refund my money too. screw em.

hehe. Well i guess its the thought that counts

I dont see how you can do 128kbps for .90. Thats not even possible using Cogent Bandwidth!

By Terms of Cogent Bandwidth:
1mbit = $10
If you can put 7.8 128kbps on each mbit, that means you can only make $7.03 per mbit, which basically isnt even paying the bandwidth bills, let alone utilities and such... heh.

glad i didnt sign up. bu as you can tell from my sig, i have no need for any shoutcast slots right at this moment. if anything ive got enough bandwidth here to support 10 @ 24k, which is more than enough for what kind of listeners i usually get.

Sad thing is most of these providers are simply people like us who in most cases don't know squat about running a true professional hosting company. They can offer and sell anything they want for any price - but when things get overloaded and malfunction they don't know what to do and thats when they stop responding to people.

I barely deal with hosting providers anymore. I use one company for 100 slots and another for 30, all the rest of my streams are hosted on my own dedicated boxes. The streams hosted by providers go down often - those hosted by ne have never - not one single time - ever gone down.

If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself. And remember, if it seems to good to be true it probably is.
