Write a script/cron job to remove and add djs at your discretion using the API.

Bug Report:
When the shoutcast password contains ASCII or some characters such as ( % . & / " ' ) sc_trans unable to send the metadata and this causes song title update(you hear the music but song title is empty) + song history.

Related Log:
msg:[shoutcastmetadata] Sending metadata
msg:[shoutcastmetadata] waitToSend - sendTitle title response returned error. HTTP/1.0 401 Unauthorized

Solution:
Use only normal alphabet and numbers as a password for the shoutcast and update your sc_trans conf for the new password.

Hello people,
I'm almost new because I use Liquidsoap
http://savonet.sourceforge.net/
instead of sc_trans to feed sc_serv
few questions (in bad english :-/) before running/testing sc_trans 2.0 :

I can't figure out how to write my calendar.xml
to switch between 3 playlist depending time.

0 playlist is the "normal" one played almost all day long
1 playlist have to be played every evening between 18h30=>20h30
2 playlist is played at the morning from 10h00 to 12h00 and at evening from 22h00 to 00h00

I don't understand how to write the calendar.xml
because i wish repeat the same model
every day and
in the example provided in documentation
you put fixed date

startdate="2009/03/12" enddate="2009/03/12"

Thank for your advise.

My .conf file looks like that :
Quote:
;;;; PLAYLIST CONTROL
; your playlist
playlistfilename_0=normal
playlistfilename_1=labomix
playlistfilename_2=mix
playlistfilepath_0=/home/bidule/minimal.lst
playlistfilepath_1=/home/bidule/labomix.lst
playlistfilepath_2=/home/bidule/mix-minimal.lst

; by default we shuffle the playlist.
shuffle = 1

xfade=2

xfadethreshold=20
; drop folder for priority playlists
playlists=/var/www/sc_trans-beta/
; where finished priority playlists get copied
archive=0
My calendar.xml:
Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<eventlist>
<event type="dj">
<dj archive="0">admin</dj>
<calendar starttime="00:00:00" />
</event>

<event type="playlist">
<playlist loopatend="0" shuffle="1" priority="2">normal</playlist>
<calendar starttime="14:42:00" startdate="2009/03/12" enddate="2009/03/12" duration="02:00:00" repeat="#" />
</event>
<event type="playlist">
<playlist loopatend="0" shuffle="1" priority="2">labomix</playlist>
<calendar starttime="18:30:00" startdate="2009/03/12" enddate="2009/03/12" duration="02:00:00" repeat="#" />
</event>
<event type="playlist">
<playlist loopatend="0" shuffle="1" priority="2">mix-minimal</playlist>
<calendar starttime="10:00:00" startdate="2009/03/12" enddate="2009/03/12" duration="02:00:00" repeat="#" />
</event>
<event type="playlist">
<playlist loopatend="0" shuffle="1" priority="2">mix-minimal</playlist>
<calendar starttime="22:00:00" startdate="2009/03/12" enddate="2009/03/12" duration="02:00:00" repeat="#" />
</event>

The simpliest answer is to always use full paths for every aspect of sc_trans, avoid headaches. If sc_trans is run as a daemon all paths must be full

Hi again,

found one bug again:
if, for some reasons, the main playlist can't be read after a reload-request, sc_trans terminates. Bad thing, as a dj can't connect in this case for briging over the problem.

As a work-around, I defined a "emergency"-playlist in the calendar.xml which is allowed everytime. But the side-effect of this is, that on start of sc_trans this list starts playing immediately - so I have to abort it from the djapp-website.
As a solution for that problem, I set the priority of the emergency-list to 1 and added the main-list with a prioity of 2 (also allowed everytime)- I thought that would help - but this only leads to playing nothing.. in the log-file you only see an endless loading/caching of the main-list.

Thanks for reading and probably finding a solution.

First of all, awesome app!

Really cool that I can do a low quality AAC+ stream out of studio and still serve a really awesome sounding mp3 to listeners.

My only complaint is the memory/ram usage.

48kb aac to 128kb and 24kb streams.

If you're running on a Unix variant, you can actually lower the memory foot print. Unix has a default memory allocation per thread that can be somewhat large. Read #13 in the docs.txt file. It explains how to lower the system default.

Hmm, interesting. Well thanks for the reply, but my copy of docs.txt only goes to 12 items. Can you please paste what I need to know here, or email the file to dgl161wmbg@gmail.com .

Thanks!

Ahh.. you see #13 is a secret :-)

13) Virtual memory footprint

sc_trans creates a lot of threads, and the default virtual memory stack allocation
per thread can be very large under Linux (typically 10MB per thread). Form most people
this won't matter as the memory is not really allocated unless used, but if you have a resource
constrained system, or plan on running many copies of sc_trans, you could run out of VM.
The default thread allocation can be reduced by issuing the "ulimit" command before running
sc_trans

ulimit -s 512

Will limit the per-thread stack size to 512KB.

Hello, my name is Rodrigo, I am a Brazilian user SHOUTcast does not know English, use the Google translator to post, so my English is way quash.

I am a novice user in SSH, I have a linux server and use it three shoutcasts server, transmitting live with Zara Radio, via a local transmitter, but I'm wanting to change my system to sc_trans to eliminate costs and that falls between connecting the transmitter to the local server. But I have no experience and could not find a tutorial explaining step by step how to install the beta 2 on linux sc_trans via SSH, someone could help me?

PS: I want use sc_trans 2 that broadcasts in AAC Plus, why in sc_trans 1 is not supported the format.

Follow the steps in the post below, but substitute sc_trans. You are correct that you need to use beta 5.

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....65#post1791565

A while ago, I wrote the tutorial below for setting up an earlier beta of sc_trans for windows. The information discussed relates to the configuration file for sc_trans so it will apply to the current version as well as linux systems.

Hello Fc * uk, thanks for replying, I with the links that you went to work in the windows and sc_trans soon be testing on linux, now able to understand how everything works and looks, I was happy the way the sc_trans work.

Now I have more doubts, I would like to offer listeners called time (for example, are now 15:08 (audio in)), would do so with sc_trans?

I see that has a scheduling system, it serves to set for example the start time and end of a playlist?

Thank you, is helping me a lot, really thanks.

The scheduling system that I believer you are talking about if for DJs only. It was made so that an unscheduled DJ could not kick a scheduled DJ.

If you want to get into playlist scheduling, then you need to look into using something like cron on linux.

Just a little bug:

Playlist-Entries with files that contain []
generate no entries.

For example:
msg:[playlistMgr]The playlist entry /home/mp3/neu/Englisch/Englisch M/Melanie Thornton - Memories [Album Version].mp3 generated no entries.

After renaming the file it played perfectly.

Hi,

is there any way of reducing the cpu usage of sc_trans. The old sc_trans had a neat quality option which let you achieve a pretty nice compromise between stream quality and cpu usage.

I am just asking because I got about 30 instances of sc_trans 2.0 running on my server for testing and it really kills my cpu.

IMHO that's no bug...just escape the character "\[" or just let "sed" do the magic while creating your playlist at least that's what I do

The entries in the playlist are expanded by the system shell. That way you can do

mydir/*.mp3

Many people don't realize that there are other wildcarding characters as well (such as '['). If these characters exist in the filename, you must escape them with a backslash.

Ok folks, 3 questions...

1, is there any way to get sc_trans to exit when the end of the playlist is reached?

2, what do these do (if anything)?

;; REPLAY GAIN CONTROL:
applyreplaygain=0
calculatereplaygain=0

And 3, is there any way to kick a live DJ connected to sc_trans (similar to kicking the source on the DNAS)?

Thanks again for developing such a FANTASTIC application!

Initially, I would say you need to remove the _1 from the dj login and password.

How is your DJ connecting. There's an error there that says "received password is in wrong format" which implies that the application the DJ is using is not forming the login/password combination correctly.

I connect with SAM Broadcaster. But also with Winamp it doesent work.
My Password for the Login with Winamp is: "admin:changeme"
But I recive the message: "Login denied from admin:changeme".
If I change the config to (without the _1 or _0):
Quote:
djlogin=admin
djpassword=changeme
djpriority=1
It also doesent work. I don't understand it, because the Login is allredy correct or?

Hey Computerfreak,
did you think of adding your admin to the calendar.xml ? If you did not you are going to get this error code when trying to connect.

The same error code you get, when you try to connect to sc_trans outside the time window you configured for the DJ in the calendar.xml.

Also if you are using a single Dj you have to assign a Dj show with start time 0

Yes I have added it to the calendar:
Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <eventlist> <event type="dj"> <dj archive="0">admin</dj> <calendar starttime="00:00:00" /> </event> </eventlist>
Quote:
DJ SUPPORT:
djport=9876

djlogin_0=admin
djpassword_0=changeme
djpriority_0=1

djlogin_1=david
djpassword_1=goaway
djpriority_1=2
Is that configuratoin right? I think anything is wrong, or why I get the message: "Login denied from admin:changeme"?

Perhaps try :
calendarfile=c:\sc_trans\calendar.xml

instead of calendar=

Without having a calendar.xml it works like with wrong entries.

Okay, you are right, there was a failure. The error message. "Invalid item on line 1" is now away.

But it allredy doesent work. Is there a failure in the calendar?

Perhaps you post your complete config agn ?

Sc_trans.conf and calendar.xml ... but the calendar seems to be ok for the first ... be sure to have the correct read/write rights on the files.

Could you also post your log file ?

setting the calendardebug and djdebug options should help you diagnose the problem.

It looks like it's not picking up the calendar file. Set the option calendarrewrite=1 in your config. Start sc_trans, then stop it. This option will cause sc_trans to write out the state of the calendar file back to your calendar.xml. This should provide 2 incites

1) If the file does not get rewritten, then there's a path problem to your calendar file.
2) You can look at the contents and see what sc_Tran's idea of the calendar happens to be

So, now it runs. I think my mistake was it, that I first started sc_trans and than i filled the calendar. But is it right, that you first fill the calendar and than start the sc_trans?

Whatever, thank you very much for your help!

You must build the calendar first. sc_trans will not re-read the calendar once it starts. If you want to manipulate the calendar while sc_trans is running, you'll need to write your own application that uses sc_trans' AJAX API.
