Hi everyone,
We have a spare server with these specs.

75gb hard drive
2x 750Mhz Athlons
1.2GB RAM
100MB pipe-line to the net

Our hope is that we can get enough support to enable this server as a shoutcast server. This will be completely free and we are willing to allow 1000 free ports. With those free ports we will also allow 1000 free web-sites....

If you are interested or have any questions then please leave a message here, we have a full proposal so we should be able to answer all your questions.

All the Best
Kevin

Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the response Boscooooo...

Yep we can provide both as long as we get enough responses on here...

We will support upto 128k streams to a max of 100 listeners during the Trial. We will increase this after the Trials if succesful.

Sure, we'll try it.
Can't imagine you'll have trouble beating live365's primo service

My *ONLY* Question

Why the need to be so cryptic?

What does this "trial" mean?

Yeah!, I'm interested too.. only though I think that it sounds abit too good to be true perhaps.. 128k streams to a max of 100 listeners, TOTALLY free with NO adds at all, etc, I mean...is this really true?

I'm abit new with this but I would like to start broadcasting a metal show but I mean.. how does this work.. if you don't have the server by yourself then you have to upload the files right? And you said that you have 75gb harddisk space, is that really enuff when you are offering 128k streams?

I assume not, since he is running a shoutcast server... the server will not have the MP3's them selves on there.. they would be on your home machine, and broadcast to the server through a DSP plugin and winamp. I think the disk space would probably go to the sites themselves.

I'm sure he will confirm this.

This is 100% true

This is going to be 100% free, the Trial is so that we can get the service optimised and running well.
Meaning that during the Trial we would like to fix all the bugs that may occur and identify any bandwidth and server issues and rectify them.

This will be for hobbyists aswell as well as professionals.

Our server will not hold MP3's directly and you will be banned from uploading any (thus no legal action). However our web-space will support cgi, PHP4 and all other standard web-features.

Yes this does sound to good to be true, but that was our intention. If we keep getting responses like this then we will secure the server for this use...

The server will be based in the UK and should have enough bandwidth to the US and other contries to cope.

We will soon be opening our web-site @ http://www.kalnet4u.co.uk/ there you can find more information about us.

Also we have a support e-mail which is support@kalnet4u.co.uk
Ask any questions you like...

Yours sincerely
Kevin

Ah?

So the deal is, it's free until the trial is over? How long is that? Basically it sounds like the free server is up for a limited time while you work the bugs out, then you charge?

Sounds like another Live365 (except they still have bugs)

No it will still be free after the Trial. However when the Trial is finished we expect it to be 99% upn all the time and everyone to have no server issues.

We expect during the Trials we may run into some problems, we don't want to launch a service that is far from everyones expectations. We don't want to create a bad name for ourselves by providing a poor service.

Free doesn't have to meen poor.

I'm in if you can really support this 100mbit connection.

Not trying to taking any wind out of your sail, but I did some background checking and on the surface of things its going to cost (you) £199 per mbit per month (for those out there thats £199 x 100mbit ..or a shtuff load of money).

Hopefully this puts into perspective my concerns as to the longevity of this project. If you found some deal on bandwidth I would surely be grateful for any information you could pass on about it as well.

IBIG - Relax.

I can't post an exact amount on how much we are spending on bandwidth. But it is something that we can cope with (funding wise). It is not that expensive as people expect, but enough to make you feel slightly faint.

I would like to have a spot on your server

I am planning on starting a SHOUTcast debate/music channel. Since I live in the Washington D.C. area, which is the politics capital of the world, I plan on starting a politics-talk and music station to discuss current issues, run a debate forum, and an IRC channel.

I would be able to afford perhaps a small fee to you for server space if that becomes necessary.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. :-)

Sincerely,

David Flanagan
