File Size of Playlists

This may already be present, and I simply haven't found it, but...

I use WinAmp both to play my music when at home and to manage my mp3 player's playlist. However, there's always a bad moment when loading my player, because while I know the open capacity of my player, I don't have a way of telling the approximate space required for the playlist; I'm forced to guesstimate. I don't know if I'm overloading or underloading until the transfer is finished.

Hi,

You can send your playlist from the playlist editor to the media library and look at it there to get the file size info. Then delete the listing if you don't want to keep a permanent copy.

Unless I am misunderstanding your instructions, that doesn't work. The playlist editor won't show me the total size of the playlist files, just their length. The playlist manager does the same. The only way that would seem to work is if I selected all the files in my library that are on the playlist... something that would have to be done one at a time.

Since this is a feature that I find posts going back to 2005 asking about, I'm finding it baffling that I have to fight the program to get this information the player already has.

Sorry, you are right. What I was looking at was a smart view list and not a playlist.

Download and install the following plug-in. It adds a "Copy playlist files" command to the main player's right click context menu. This plug-in lets you copy the files listed in a playlist to another location. The dialog window that lets you select the location also lists the playlist's total file size. Then you can cancel the dialog without actually copying the files.

This would work, if the smart view could handle a request like:
?(inplaylist = "MyPlaylist"),
giving 'true' for all files which are in the playlist 'MyPlaylist'

The sum of all energies is zero.
