Winamp crashes if I connect my HTC Desire HD
Hi everyone, I am posting this thread again, because I didn't got a response in the "Bug Report Thread"
My Problem: Each time i plug in my Android Smartphone (HTC Desire HD) Winamp crashes, giving me this error message (its in german): Problemsignatur: Problemereignisname: APPCRASH Anwendungsname: winamp.exe Anwendungsversion: 5.6.0.3091 Anwendungszeitstempel: 4cfd5d9d Fehlermodulname: MSVCR90.dll Fehlermodulversion: 9.0.30729.4926 Fehlermodulzeitstempel: 4a1743c1 Ausnahmecode: c0000005 Ausnahmeoffset: 0005680d Betriebsystemversion: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Gebietsschema-ID: 1031 Zusatzinformation 1: 0a9e Zusatzinformation 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Zusatzinformation 3: 0a9e Zusatzinformation 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 the problem seems to be the Android plugin - if I deactivate it Winamp runs fine. Did a clean reinstall and the Problem still occurs. My System: Winamp 5.601 (build 3091) Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins Language Pack: German Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) Locale: German CPU: Intel i5 m520 @ 2.4GHz (2 cpu's) Memory: 2GB RAM Graphics: Intel Graphics Controller Sound: Intel Audio Controller DirectX 11 It wouldn't be a big deal, but i want to use the Sync feature as well as the Mediastreaming feature via Wifi (btw. which both also doesn't work (at least at this PC)) I don't even get the device connected. So here is my question - is there a workaround to fix this ? |

Kind of solution
Hello everyone
I've been going mad on this problem for months, but I've got a little workaround. The problem seems to be in the "Android"-folder on the SD-card, i guess it's a matter of empty files or something. Nevermind... I did this and it worked: 1. Close Winamp 2. Connect phone to PC (mine is HTC Desire@Android2.2) 3. Select Hard-Drive-Mode 4. Move the "Android"-Folder from SD-card to PC 5. Start Winamp & sync music 6. Close Winamp 7. Move "Android"-folder back. This worked fine for me and I hope it will help you too. Have a nice weekend! :-) |

For USB-Connection read my prev post.
For WiFi-Connection try to delete the appdata of winamp in the android settings. (And of course, make sure Winamp on PC isn't blocked by firewall ;-) ) |

With 5.62 the problem persists.
Moving the folder before starting Winamp isn't a real alternative. |

Yes. The latest Android-Winamp-Version and the latest Android (2.3.4). But it's not a question of the Android version. Winamp just crashes when a folder named "android" is found on the sd-card after mounting.
So it's still a bug in the Winamp PC-version ![]() |

exactly the same problem here too. It's quite annoying as i can listen to no music with winamp when my phone is recharging.
Have been searching quite a while for a solution, but haven't seen anything official yet. The Problems seems to be wide spread too. |

Hmm, I've got an Android folder on my sd card and don't get any crash.
Are there any files inside your Android folder? Mine's just got a "data" subfolder, containing 3 cache subfolders from other apps. What's in the Winamp folder on the sd card? Is there a pmp_android.ini AND a pmp_usb.ini Winamp uses the Android folder for some (but not all) devices to detect if it's an Android device (as opposed to generic USB). If the device isn't detected as Android then Winamp will assume it's generic usb. Maybe there's a conflict going on between pmp_android & pmp_usb both trying to read the drive? Delete pmp_usb.ini if it's there. If it's none of the above then is there maybe some other external process concurrently running which also manages portable devices? |

Hey there and thanks for your proposal. I don't have a pmp_android.ini. There is also no pmp_usb.ini.
Maybe the crash is caused because both files are missing? Could you maybe attach your pmp_android.ini to test this? No, there is no other usb-managing-software running. |

Hmm, there should be 3 files inside the X:\Winamp folder (where X: is the Android device drive letter)
pmp_android.ini winamp_metadata.dat winamp_metadata.idx The .ini file will have the "Hidden" attribute, so you would need to be able to view hidden files first (via: Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab) Each pmp_android.ini file will be different per user because the config/settings relate to the relevant model, drive letter, and personal settings (as depicted in Winamp > Prefs > Portables > Android Drive > *) Does the Winamp folder exist? We might be on to something here if files can't be written to the sd card.... |

I don't have a winamp folder on my sd-card.
I got a pmp_usb.ini in the root folder. The winamp-metadata files were also there. I deleted all three of them but the crash is persisting. |

Hmm, those files were from an older version of Winamp/pmp_android & Winamp For Android.
Have you definitely got the latest (Winamp 5.621 & Winamp For Android 1.1.1)? What files are inside the Android folder? I've just got a "data" subfolder in there which contains cache/thumbnail subfolders for other apps... To diagnose this any further we would need to be able to reproduce the problem first. But we can't ![]() |

Somehow my Android-System didn't mention the version 1.1.1 as new. I was using 1.0.1. Everything is working fine now. Thank's for your advice DJ Egg!

A solution figured out yesterday for wifi-connection:
Try to deactivate ALL network-adapters, except the one connected to your wifi. Then restart both winamps and activate wifi sync on the phone. It's not really comfortable, like moving the "Android"-folder, but it's a solution :-) . I just think we have to wait for WinAmp to fix these errors. Winamp for Android and its wifi-connection are just too new... |

I have had the same problem with my Motorola Defy and current Winamp Versions. The problem doesn't appear with Winamp 5.56.
This version doesn't support direct Sync with Android mobiles but it doesn't crash when the phone is connected which is more important to me. I hope the devs get this problem fixed and that some of you find this information useful. best regards Viru |

Same problem on XPERIA MINI PRO SK17i
I have similair problems. Winamp is crashing when my Android Phone is connected via USB and in File Transfer Mode.
I checked with Sysinternals Process Monitor what files WINAMP.exe is using on my SD-Card (F:\) See Screenshot, i hope this helps debugging. ![]() |

If uremove the Android folder from SDCARD it will run normally, but remove it every time u plug the phone in the PC isn't a solution.

Actually there's just one solution to this problem with the Android that I found today while I was exploring the folders of Winamp in my disk C:
There is: On your main folder of winamp, the folder you've installed the program "C:\Program Files\Winamp" You'll find an archive .ini named Install.ini, if you have the lastest version, you problably will find this write in the Install.ini after opening it: Quote:
But be careful. The program uses the date of installation, on the start of the quote. If you want to make a new ".ini", keep the same date of your original ".ini" on the new one, otherwise your problem will only gets worst. I hope I have helped Last edited by ATH15; 2nd December 2011 at 19:06. |

same problem WinXP - DEFY+
...running the current version on both. crashes upon plugging in the device.
I would actually be quite willing to shell out the money for the pro version, but with this problem seemingly persisting for such a long time that really is quite a turn-off... |

Well, I have my Galaxy 5 with Android 2.2, and my computer had the same problem with winamp and the android. When I clicking in a music or video from my SD card, winamp simply crashes and I had to install all over again. When I did this on my last post the problem disappeared...I don't know other solution till now, sorry.

Solved
I think i solved the problem
I use a defy, but maybe it works for you... Close winamp move android folder for a PC folder Start winamp he will ask for manager the driver, press Ok or Yes Three files will be create in the root of your sd card Create a folder X:/Winamp and put these files there Move back your Android folder to your sd card Go to preferences -> plugins -> portable and double click the pmp_android.dll plugin choose the drive letter (the RIGHT letter, pls) and press Connect, Confirm and that will create a pmp_androi.ini file into your X:/Winamp folder You will be able to reconect your android into any pc with winamp ![]() PLS winamp developers, fix this error or at last give the option for disable android plugin u.u |

some details on my version of problem and fix
So, i have an Android Incredible with a 32 GB SD card. I've been trying to get winamp to work well with it because I love winamp on my computer and I use playlists and I want my playlists transferred to my phone as playlists, so I get not just the music but the playlist file.
Wifi is a bust, too many limitations to how the apps communicate, have to turn off extra network adapters including vmware nics which means vmware doesn't work, and other Windows services, pretty weak. Then tried plugging phone in via USB and turning on USB mode on phone. Could copy songs, but seemed pretty slow and eventually winamp would start crashing. Took memory card out and put it in a reader. Winamp still recognized as an Android device and behaved about the same, could copy some songs, but once I get up to a certain number of songs winamp starts crashing and it's slow to copy. Then copied everything off the memory card, did a full reformat with 64k clusters, put everything back and tried again. The same. Then came across this thread and what I've discovered is very interesting. Still have the memory card out of the phone. If you rename the Android folder (just add a character to the beginning or the end of the name) before you start winamp it will see the card as a USB memory device not an Android memory device and suddenly all my problems are gone. Songs copy tons (really, tons, like 4 or 5 times, maybe more) faster and no more crashing. After that's done, if I then put the Android folder name back to normal winamp again sees this memory card as an android device and copies files slowly and crashes regularly even if only updating a couple of files. Winamp, you guys need to fix the android connector add on to winamp, it's clearly buggy. Everyone else, hope this helps. |

Try to shut down all network adapters, one connected to your WiFi except. And then restart the two winamps and activate the wireless sync on the phone.

I had the same issue as well, with version 5.63 and I fixed it by making sure that:
1. All meta data was filled in like Artist and Track Name. I had a few blanks here and because I didn't like the songs any ways I decided to remove them completely. But I believe that filling up the blanks should do the job too. 2. In the Winamp App I have enabled the following setting: Enable Auto Mount. After changing these two settings my Sync through USB is working fine, not sure if they are related to this issue but for me it worked. |

Best and most radical way to get rid of that problem: Option-Preferences-Portable, and delete android plugin. No more crash, can connect android device anytime without Winamp crashing. IMO, badly done plugin.

and it's going to stay that way unless we get provided with crash dumps that will help to determine the cause of the issue and then be able to fix the issues... i.e. following http://forums.winamp.com/showpost.ph...86&postcount=6 (and ensuring using the current version of Winamp at the time).
