Breaking a beer bottle without breaking the neck
Ok, I've got a beer bottle, and I wanna break the body of the bottle apart, so I can take the neck and use it as a guitar slide...
Does anyone know of the best way I can go about breaking a beer bottle without breaking the bottle's neck? If it's a plastic bottle, use a knife.

Heat and hacksaw.
Dont burn yourself; and make sure you buff out the raw edges before craming your finger in there. ![]() ![]() elevatorladyelevatorladyelevatorladyelevatorladyelevatorladylevitateme |

try taking a nail and scoring a line around it. Might make it easier to break without breaking the neck.
Score a nice scratch around the bottle, and try gently tapping below the line. If it fails, it ain't hard to get more beer bottles. ![]() |

I wouldn't know what to use as far as cutting the glass goes...I could probably go at it with a hacksaw, but I don't have that much extra time to burn...
![]() I'm gonna try scoring a line...I know I have things that can make a good scratch in glass... And if I lose this bottle, I'll just wait until I go to my dad's house...My step-mom always drinks beers like Michelob Light in bottles, so there I go with my supply... ![]() "I just want to lie in my own crusty filth, eating rancid egg sandwiches, until some unfortunate paramedic has to blow down my door to find my bloated and pasty corpse wedged between the nightstand and mattress stained with Bengay and Robitussin DM." - Greg Gutfeld on sex and seniors "Syphilis does not stay in Vegas. Beer on plastic bottles are quite common here, though it tastes like shit. I prefer glass or can. I knew that you ment glass, but dynamite sounded nice.
But seriously, cutting it would be the best idea. Use a diamond-edged steel-cutter maybe? Glass is metal. Sand is distringated rock, and rock is metal. 09 F9 11 01 9D 74 E8 5B D8 41 56 C3 63 56 81 C0 |

No one has suggested a glass cutter? Its got a wheel that scores the glass. You then just tap the scored line and it will break. Then use a moto tool to smoothe the sharp edge.

Pneumatic cut-off tool. Just make sure that you're wearing all your personal protective equipment and have the bottle secured before starting.

The search for the ultimate signature continues apace. I have journeyed from the peaks of Nepal to the depths of oceanic trenches. I have crossed deserts, jungles, swamps, savannas, steppes and frozen wastelands. I have consulted with seers, swamis, sages, scholars and savants. The peregrination proceeds purposefully. |

How about buying a manufactured slide? They're better than a bottleneck and not very expensive.

I'm sorry. I wasn't aware glass cutters were like, popular items found on the floor at the local Y. I'm probably wrong, but It doesn't seem to me they are so easy to get a hold of.

To have a glass-cutter isn't very usual is it? A steel-cutter is a quite common tool for mechanics. 09 F9 11 01 9D 74 E8 5B D8 41 56 C3 63 56 81 C0 |

Instead of an $11.00 glass cutter, how about a $3.50 slide?
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/364044/ Just a thought....And if you order $199.00, you get free shipping! (ok, that sucks but still...nice thought.) They seem to have slides from $3.50 to $30.00... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...?c=4380&page=1 Whoops, that was off topic wasn't it? ![]() |

Midnight,
Keep in mind the best glass slides are the necks of reasonably thick-walled hand-blown bottles. ![]() elevatorladyelevatorladyelevatorladyelevatorladyelevatorladylevitateme |

I prefer a nice beefy chunk of brass, but if you still need a bottleneck then this place flogs them for a tenner and will cut your fave bottle: http://www.bluemoonbottleneck.co.uk
This place does medicine bottles for ten bucks: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BGHMOJO |
