Flac files only play white noise

Ok I got a fairly new PC built, with Realtek HD audio on motherboard, Windows XP sp3 and all updates, including driver updates.

I installed WinAmp 5.623 and tried to play several FLAC files that I know plays fine on my other PC with Creative Live Sound Card.

On this new PC they all play with white noise.

I've seen a few other's have reported this and you guys writing that that is impossible due to the built in FLAC support. Well I can verify your, and the third party WinAmp FLAC plug-ins I tried on this PC does NOT work!!!

Listing of installed input plug-ins (in_*) and the relevent apis which they indicate that they
support to allow you to see how well the plug-in is likely to work with different Winamp builds.

Note: This is a best guess at how well the plug-ins shown should work with Winamp and until
you actually use the plug-ins with Winamp in normal use you will not otherwise know.

A * means the plug-in has support for metadata queries on a file (2.9+)
A # means the plug-in supports saving modified metadata via Winamp apis (2.9+)
A % means the plug-in supports the unified file info dialog and a '%+' shows it adds its own pages (5.5+)
A || means the plug-in supports the api_decoder used for transcoding/replaygain/etc (5.34+)

A || means the plug-in supports the api_decoder used for transcoding/replaygain/etc (5.34+)
and '(Seekable)' indicates extra support in processing of audio data via api_decoder

A {} around a symbol means the plug-in supports the unicode version of the api

Summary:

'One for Nunz' found 16 installed input plug-ins in 'C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins'
93% (15) of the plug-ins installed provide the needed 5.x api ("winampGetExtendedFileInfo(..)
or winampGetExtendedFileInfoW(..)") to allow the formats provided by the plug-ins to work with
most of Winamp 5.x's features (more important with higher versions).

Unicode Taskbar Compatibility Listing

The plug-ins listed below show references to the SetWindowLongA(..) OS api. If this api is used to
subclass Winamp's main window, it can cause Winamp's display of unicode text in the taskbar to fail.
For a plug-in to be compatible it needs to use the unicode version of the api - SetWindowLongW(..).

Being listed here does not mean a plug-in will cause the issue as there are legitimate reasons for
a plug-in to be using SetWindowLongA(..) but it is a good indicator for people who know which ones
are compatible to route out plug-ins which are likely to be causing the issue. Only those plug-ins
which do not also show references to the SetWindowLongW(..) OS api have been included in this list.

If you do experience the issue then there is a way to fix the plug-in(s) if the original author is
no longer supporting or around to fix the plug-in(s) to use SetWindowLongW(..) for the subclassing
by installing the Unicode Taskbar Fix from http://nunzioweb.com/daz/unicodetaskbarfix/index.html

Hi

Right-click one of your FLAC files in Winamp's playlist and select "View File Info (Alt+3)"
Then please copy+paste everything under "Format Info" here
(you should be able to drag the mouse and select from Length to Compression Ratio, then rt-click > copy)

Also let us know if "Allow 24bit" is checkmarked or not under: Winamp > Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Playback
and whether "Create pirmary buffer" is checkmarked under: Prefs > Plugins > Output > DirectSound (out_ds) > config > Device tab
and whether "Old style fade on pause" is checkmarked under the Fading tab (also in out_ds config).

Does enabling/disabling any of those options make a difference?

If the problem persists, then we will need a short sample file...somehow....

File info

Length: 2764 seconds
Channels: 2
Bits per sample: 16
Sample Rate: 44100 Hz
File Size: 436499465 bytes
Average bitrate: 1263 kbps
Compression Ratio: 89%

24-bit was not checked, and checking it did not help.
Create Primary Buffer was not checked, and checking did not help
Old Style Fading was not checked, and checking it did not help

Ok I have now found out that it is only certain FLAC files that do not play correct. Strange as the one who plays fine also are 16 bits, 44.1KHz

try re-encoding them, ie. flac to flac, and/or decoding to wav, then re-encoding, and/or checking them with a flac file integrity checker utility.

but be sure to post a sample problem file to mediafire or somewhere like that first.

DKDiveDude, did you get your problem resolved? I have the same problem with FLAC file playback since my last update to 5.63 circa June 2012. Sounds like static or a scratchy record. Mp3 and ape files play fine.

The FLAC files play just fine in VLC and other audio players.
