skipping

My winamp skips ahead when the computer doesn't have any other applications open, and it skips more frequently when I'm doing other things on the computer. The volume is also much lower when I'm using the winamp rather than playing cd's off the media player...please help! skipping sucks.

- NeoRenegade, please do not link to that outdated v1.73 version of the CD-Reader plugin that Winamp.com have on their servers anymore! That old and pretty buggy version causes more problems than it actually solves, so please always use the official URL, http://www.url*****~copah/CDReader.htm in the future. Thanks .

The most current version is v1.91 of the CD-Reader plugin, which is actually pretty stable and bug-free .

@ bfischer: Go ahead and download the CD-Reader plugin for Winamp, which offers digital CDDA playback, improving quality and enables you to use the Winamp equalizer and DSP effect plugins in conjunction with audio CDs . It might also fix your skipping issues. Make sure you read its accompanying installation instructions thoroughly.

As for the volume, make sure the volume slider in the Winamp main window is cranked up to a decent value. As well as check the CD audio volume in the Windows mixer, it should be on a decent level as well. To open up the Windows mixer for your soundcard, simply doubleclick on the tiny yellowish speaker icon at the bottom right of your taskbar (as referred to the systray, the area where the clock resides).

The official site is never dead, it's just a free server in Russia, so it's kinda natural that it's down sometimes .

In case it's down, people can always get the latest CD-Reader plugin from my site, ambiant.de . I should make that more public .

Peace.
