Why can't you fix an obvious bug BEFORE milkrop is discontinued?

You are obviously not working on Milkdrop anymore, and that is OK, cause it can't get any better... :P

But it must be possible to fix the Multimonitor bug that appeared in 1.04 BEFORE you discontinue Milkdrop.

I have a feeling that it is a very litte, easy to fix bug, so PLEASE fix it. It has annoyed me so long now...

Read about the bug HERE or HERE

Pleeeaaase....

Not likely. It is probably better to think of MilKDrop as discontinued from 1.04b which came out a year or so ago.

Why?

Unless the developer is dead, and the source is lost, it must be possible to fix that bug?

It's like releasing Windows XP, but noticing that networking doesn't work, and don't release a fix for it...

I doubt this would happen, but it sure would be nice if the source for this seemingly discontinued product could be released as open source! At least from that point on, it could be taken where it was promised by those of us that still hang on with hope.

Ryan Geiss the devolper hasn't worked for Nullsoft since this version a year and a half ago nearly now.

Nullsoft only have 3 staff members now and they are part time.

It is nothing like your Microsoft example. FOr a start they are selling a product. People now-a-days expect too much from software on the Internet demanding to get things fixed.

I do agree that it should be open source. It was talked about when Ryan left but nothing happen.

Who has the decision to make it happen?

These 3 part time members? I'm guessing a hire authority.
We need somewhere to start to present a case!

I assume also that as this is a nullsoft forum and it concerns milkdrop, that Ron sold his rights to it when coming on board? Does Geissworks no longer have anything to do with Ron?

As it is part of a free product, I would think it wouldn't be much of an issue to release it as Open Source.

Rovastar: I know microsoft and milkdrop are to different things, but the authors would probably have the same feeling...

I wouldn't be happy if i knew my finished software had a stupid bug. I would feel a little embarrassed if the final version had such bug...

The big difference I see here is that The author no longer has ties to the software legally. Therefore the new owner has rights to it, and likely no knowledge of how to edit/debug the code, so in effect it is abandon.

Ok, now i understand the big problem here! Why didn't anyone post that earlier :P

So theres no way to "hire" him to fix the bug?

That's one of the reasons I suggest moving it to open source. It would remain free, and would also open it up to many improvements.
