The new winamp home page is so overloaded...
It is slow, eats to much resources and loads way to long... Do we really want Winamp Media Player like this? Maybe I will remind... Winamp always was fast, powerful and customizable. I'm glad things are moving along. I just hope the new website design won't be "setting the tone" for what's coming. It looks like a placeholder, and I hope it won't remain as the front page of the domain. It's essentially one big flashy ad that freezes my browser momentarily when loading, and I can't remember the last time my browser choked like that.

The new web page is absolutely a teaser and I'm guessing the delay is partially evocative of the time from it's update to when the new Winamp is formally introduced.
I'm anxious for it.. Still using the patched last version though I'd been using the one from my license as it'd last been delivered for years beforehand. Oh it'd be so great to have it come out with the new year.. with maybe a pre-release for us forum members.. Hint.!.. oh, subtle  *chuckling

Copy the URL and replace those asterisks with linkedin[dot]com, if you happen to be blocked by a login wall, just open the page in incognito mode |

The NFT is explained here and it appears to be taking the place of a kickstarter or something to finance development, that's all.
Please refer to the actual Winamp page link... https://www.winamp.com/winamp-nft-initiative/ I think this is a good way to help fund development, especially with both fans and artists being part of helping to make the new Winamp happen. |

Agreed... So, this leaves it up to us to make sure that it's understood that we don't want any crypto-babble involved with us using the software for it's intended multimedia purposes and expect there to be No requirements to participate in crypto or nfts or whatever pops into existence tomorrow that's considered FADulous.

and here's the news...
As mentioned before, Winamp6 will be more like a continuation of WAFA - but a cross-platform app for Android, iOS, web, etc. Winamp 5 for Windows is still an ongoing project. We've now got a whole new development team!!! Yay! The biggest job of all was to get the Winamp 5 project ported over from old VS2008 to VS2017 (or newer) and building... The refactoring process is still on the way, but almost complete. There won't be many new features in the next release, mainly refactoring, bug fixes, 3rd-party lib updates (Lame, libmpg123, libflac, libvorbis, etc.) - the main thing is to get the project building and active again. We will have to break canon and after releasing a v5.9 (maybe in a few weeks' time), the next releases will need to be e.g. v5.10.0, 5.11.0, etc. Or maybe 5.901, 5.902, 5.912, etc. We shall see. It's all good :-) ________________ |

Very good to hear such news! We all hope it will be done soon. It is high time to replace the old BETA version with the new, official one. There were many announcements and nothing happened... To be honest, it is a shame it takes so long... And all that NFT stuff... please, focus on Music Player, not stupid ideas that nobody wants. Winamp for Windows is must have. There are still users that use local music library. That own music, not corporation streams... Old school Winamp is what we need. Yes, it's taken waaay too long. More recently caused by a combination of covid, personal tragedies (for me & other team members), funding (a lack thereof), availability of personnel (old and/or new), and just the general state of the world (politics, the human condition, etc.). Winamp for Windows is alive and well. We will have a new release in the coming weeks! |
