I can't burn a CD from flac files
Hello
I've recently installed WinAmp in order to be able to play some flac files. The files play fine but I'm unable to burn a CD from them which I believe I should be able to do. I've tried a full re-install and checked that flac support is ticked (everything is ticked, it's a full download of 552) Advice greatly appreciated. Techie stuff follows: Asus KT400A-8237 AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 2047MB DDR-SDRAM Creative SB Audigy NVidia GeForce 6200 Win XP SP3 DirectX 9.0c WinAmp 5.52 (full install free download version) nstalled Winamp plugin list Generated by 'One for Nunz v4.0' on 11/06/2009 at 16:32:12 << Winamp Information >> Winamp.ini path is: C:\Documents and Settings\Crogal\Application Data\Winamp\Winamp.ini Plugin directory is: D:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins Visualisation directory is: D:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins DSP directory is: D:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins Skin directory is: D:\Program Files\Winamp\skins Language Pack directory is: D:\Program Files\Winamp\Lang Using Winamp version: 5.55 (Build 2435) Current skin: Bento (Modern skin) Sonic Burning Engine is installed << OS Information >> Running on: Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Memory available: 2096624 KB << Input plugins >> Nullsoft CD Plug-in (MusicID 2.5) v3.8 [in_cdda.dll] Nullsoft DirectShow Decoder v1.06 [in_dshow.dll] Nullsoft FLAC Decoder 2.08 [in_flac.dll] Nullsoft Flash Video Decoder 1.1 [in_flv.dll] Nullsoft LineIn Plug-in v3.12 [in_linein.dll] Nullsoft MIDI Player 3.17 [in_midi.dll] Nullsoft Module Decoder v2.5 [in_mod.dll] Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 4.7 [in_mp3.dll] Nullsoft MPEG-4 Audio Decoder v1.9 [in_mp4.dll] Nullsoft NSV Decoder v1.1 [in_nsv.dll] Nullsoft Flash Control Playback v1.0 [in_swf.dll] Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v1.55 [in_vorbis.dll] Nullsoft Waveform Decoder v3.16 [in_wave.dll] Nullsoft Windows Media Decoder 3.29 [in_wm.dll] << Output plugins >> Nullsoft Disk Writer v2.14 [out_disk.dll] Nullsoft DirectSound Output v2.49 (d) [out_ds.dll] [active] Nullsoft WaveOut Output v2.12 (d) [out_wave.dll] << Visualisation plugins >> Advanced Visualization Studio v2.82 [vis_avs.dll] MilkDrop 2.1 [vis_milk2.dll] [active] Nullsoft Tiny Fullscreen v2.10 [vis_nsfs.dll] << DSP plugins >> Nullsoft Signal Processing Studio DSP v0.39b [dsp_sps.dll] << General Purpose plugins >> Nullsoft DropBox v0.5 (alpha) [gen_dropbox.dll] Nullsoft Modern Skins Support v1.37 [gen_ff.dll] Nullsoft Global Hotkeys v1.7 [gen_hotkeys.dll] Jump To File Extra v1.0.4 (Build 767) [gen_jumpex.dll] Nullsoft Media Library v3.26 [gen_ml.dll] One for Nunz v4.0 [gen_nunzio.dll] Nullsoft Tray Control v2.1a [gen_tray.dll] << Media Library plugins >> Nullsoft Dashboard v1.03 [ml_dash.dll] Nullsoft Now Playing v3.6 [ml_nowplaying.dll] Nullsoft Local Media v2.6 [ml_local.dll] Orb Remote Media v1.01 [ml_orb.dll] Nullsoft Playlists v1.17 [ml_playlists.dll] Nullsoft Online Services v1.62 [ml_online.dll] Nullsoft Podcasts Plug-in v1.25 [ml_wire.dll] Nullsoft Rip & Burn v1.6 [ml_disc.dll] Nullsoft Portable Music Player Support v1.25 [ml_pmp.dll] |

I forgot to say that the burn process tells me that it "can't find the decoder"

Could someone at least confirm that I should be able to do this?
Thanks |

Yes, yes you should. What audio format do these flac files contain? Can you post the Format Info section from the file info box about one file that fails.

Thanks JD. I think this is what you mean...
Length: 464 seconds Channels: 2 Bits per sample: 24 Sample Rate: 48000 Hz File Size: 95015890 bytes Average bitrate: 1636 kbps Compression Ratio: 71% As I said WinAmp happily plays them but on trying to burn them get the "can't find decoder" in the burn box. |

Ah, 24-bit 48kHz. I do remember that some audio formats do have problems being converted but I thought that was encoding into MP3. Perhaps the resampler cannot covert this into 16/44.1

I have a friend who did burn these files to CD successfully using winAmp (in fact he recommended WinAmp for the job). I think something in my set-up is wrong. Or maybe my PC - I'm also having separate problems with Windows Media Player 11 following upgrade from WMP9 (keeps shutting down and blaming lame mp3 codec)
