Beat my dust.

Take pictures of your dust. Post them here. Any dust, dirt, or grime from a spot where you don't often clean or get to often. My first submission is from the bottom of the computer tower where the power supply air intake is, but yours don't necessarily have to be electronics related. Inspired by post 48 of this thread.

Oh, hell...I would have this easily beat, but I have no photographic proof...

Simply...Imagine a computer tower, on the floor, underneath the desktop, in the corner of a room, sitting there for year upon year before being dragged out and reluctantly cleaned while in the process of being taken apart and looked at...Not just on the outside, but on the inside too; Enough dust, you could make a literal bunny out of it, full anatomy and all...

Deeesgusting

so in other words, no real way to be sure there's a computer underneath it all?

You couldn't make a big enough bunny anyway; Maybe a small baby bunny, 8 months, one that you could caress in the palm of your hand, yet with ears big enough to not mistake it for a mouse...

Oh, I did one of those at work about a week back, a tower unit that had sat under a desk for about 3 years, used day in day out, dragged it out to upgrade the memory in it in advance of a software update on it.

Pulled the side off, found the 1gb stick in it, pulled that, put the two 1gb fresh sticks in it, thought I'd fire it up to ensure all working before putting it back in place, so left the side panel off.....

Fired it up...mmmm black screen.... odd..... 20 seconds later the fans spin into over dive *WOOOOOOOOOOOOSH* massive cloud of dust blasts out the open side panel, out of every vent on the back... fuck me I thought it had burst into flames....

Pulled power lead out quick sharp and waited for the dust to settle... pulled out the two 1gb sticks and replaced with a fresh set and tried again, tada.... worked this time, who knew a bad memory stick would have such a violent effect .......

The beautifully sculpted surface from a Lan Li.

Strange thing though, this is from two 80mm fans over the disk drives. Hasn't made any difference to the drives, but the mobo temp has dropped 7 degrees.

Beautiful. I've been quite well owned by TDM and Ujay. I looked at the furnace filter today. It was bought new in late November on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, but for some reason, it is really loaded with dust already. There's a new one shown for comparison that I bought today to replace it, as trying to clean with a vacuum hose didn't seem to work.

Dust? Did somebody say "dust"? Who got dust?

Top of the 2-6 outlet adapter that feeds my UPS and other things...

Top of my UPS, of which I think the red thing is an old ketchup packet...

I went to open this old computer expecting dust bunnies to jump out and rape my face. I was sorely disappointed...

Top of the TV I don't watch anymore...

Front grill of the window sill mounted A/C unit. I've never been able to get between those easy enough...

Obvious...

Found this little gem behind my secondary LCD monitor

Yeah, a vacuum hose with a brush attachment is what I use when things get real bad like that. The intake on Renee's hair dryer was pretty bad, but she got it cleaned before I could get a picture of it. One of these days I'll send a brush through the clothes dryer exhaust and see what happens. Snow day today, which is why I'm posting during the work day.

no, those are the dirtiest keys on the board, rarely if ever used/touched.
it still amazes me that macro shot picture managed to clearly capture things under the keys too.

My uncle was clearing out a crawl space in the basement of our house a couple of weeks ago...There's been stuff down there since the house was built (Late 1960s/early 1970s?), including stuff that's been collected since, and worst than dust, he found a rat skeleton...

This thread reminds me that I need to dust my room; It's probably been 2 or 3 months since I last did...

Well, it was a short lived hobby. I must be allergic to the shit or something... had a nice line going, then sneezed and caused the mess you see in my picture.

Yeah, the keyboard article is scary... sometimes my keyboard gets wiped down or shaken out or brush-attachment vacuumed, but not very often. There's probably several colonies in that keyboard. The computer is a mostly impressive high-end box and yet the old Dell keyboard is from 2001, and not cleaned often. Think of all the college computer labs and other public keyboards you have used. Do you think they get cleaned?

Oh, and WotL ~ you are catching it before it becomes a true problem, and that's definitely a good thing. Dust insulates and increases heat retention (bad). Dust also attracts water vapor from the air and can cause corrosion or other problems because of it.
