Playing winamp through a bluetooth connection...

If that is at all possible of course. What I am trying to do is use my belkin bluetooth dongle to transmit what winamp is playing to my l/r input on the back of my hi fi as I read somewhere you can get a bluetooth line in adapter from asia which essentially transforms any l/r input to a bluetooth receiver. Basically, has anyone had any success with this or any similar bluetooth audio setups? Thanks!

Erm... ..I've not heard of it, and I doubt very much it would work either...

At first the way the guy was describing it made me think sombody was selling him a snake oil. But looking at the site, its certinaly possible, but has nothing to do with IR ports.

Thanks Vie/Ryan, I just found a few more links with equipment doing the job for about £50, I reckon that I may have to wait till bluetooth 3.0 though cos the data rate is upped to 480 mbps from 2.1 mbps. Tempted to try it just now anyway to hear the quality, sorry mikm i dont know what gtfo means.

well, I know that you can use bluetooth as an audio source, but it is meant to be lo-grade audio (like for use with those stupid headsets people use). I know that Logitech has a set of headphones that are bluetooth, but I don't know how those fair compared to actual connectors. Also the range for bluetooth is only 25 feet, so if you need to connect to something further away, then it isn't benificial.

Though, I will answer your question. If you have a bluetooth dongle connected to your computer and you have installed the bluetooth audio driver, Winamp *should* be able to play music out to it (using the DirectSound output driver). Though, there is no promise about it.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. :-\

no, it should be installed with the bluetooth dongle with the drivers provided. I think the default Windows Drivers also have it (if the hardware exists).

Ah right im with you, the belkin dongle should have installed them then. Im an absolute bluetooth beginner so im tryin to work out what an 'audio gateway' under the list of options is and whether that can help me transmit music in any way. Hmm.

winamp should play through it simply by changing the default soundcard in mutlimedia properties to the bluetooth dongle. works with the headset on my cellphone

Well what Duane is assuming is that the dongle works as a seperate soundcard, but instead of having an output on the dongle it feeds directly via bluetooth to the reciever.

Now I've yet to find a soundcard that Direct Sound fails to work with, so it SHOULD work. However theres always the risk that its the first soundcard ever not to work with it. Heh, would be my luck if I bought one.
