I read something similar to this. It ws about men who had a fetish about having their testicles removed. But some had a reason. Like one man said he wanted it done because he had an STD and no longer wanted a sex drive.

Although I try to be tolerant and understanding to people who think and act very different than me, I must say that my first thought of this was "What the ... ???" since it is so contrary to my own opinion.
I'm undescribably happy about the fact that I wasn't born with any handicaps or grave diseases (especially after reading the medicine's dictionary "Pschyrembel" with many pictures of any disease there is - if you feel bad about yourself, read that and you'll be glad about the way you are) and there are people that lost a leg, an arm or even more who would give anything to be a "whole" person again..and here are these totally healthy people that give away their limbs some people would love to have...it seems ridiculous, but above all, unfair and made me very angry at first.

On the other hand, when thinking about it, why shouldn't they be allowed to become an amputee? There are so many people having a surgery nowadays to become "prettier" according to their views (some also to remove their "gender" to become the opposite one - which is also a lot more accepted in society than a few decades ago)...if someone wants to become an amputee because it really was their wish for decades, why not? Doctors shouldn't only help making their patients healthy but also happy or not? The only thing that I'd fear is that those people would really feel different about their situation in 5, 10, maybe 20 years, and what to do then? You can always take it off but putting it back on is (yet) impossible...good counseling and finding out if that was really the wish of the person should be mandatory before going to surgery....

However, this topic is really interesting in my opinion. Thank you for sharing this Xerxes , I'll try to get a copy of this movie sometimes!

interesting.... to play devil's advocate, who is to say that this isnt an alternative lifestyle? i personally consider it insane, but i would find it interesting to test society's limits for acceptane to se the reactions to this. it may very well be a mental disease that people would want to be like this, but will society accept people with this disease or shun them?

to delve even deeper into the acceptance vs. common decency quandary, think of pedophilia. it is a disease, a horrible thing to have or to be a victim of. now, society does not accept pedophiles as members of society, ranking them with child pornographers. Child pornographers and pedophiles have one subtle difference though. the pornographers choose their way of life, whereas the pedophiles are born with it. now, should society accept and try to treat and hopefully heal pedophiles, or shun them as it does now? additionally, is it possible for pedophiles to be accepted into the mainstream? i remind you, gays were once thought of in much the same way. i agree that there is a great difference between consensual homosexual acts and pedophilia, but still, should we accept these people into our hearts and try to treat them and their disease instead of demonizing them? (them can refer to pedophiles or amputee wannabees, whichever ou feel best answering) </uber-liberal devil's advocate>

Paedophiles sicken me, ruining a childs life for the sake of a few moments of pleasure, but that isn't the issue at hand. If people wish to mutilate their own bosy, it is their right and no-one can take that away from them. It is that simple. It's like getting a tattoo, only just that little bit more extreme. . Is peadaphillia really a disease? I find that hard to believe. It's just a clear choice someone makes - to fiddle or not to fiddle. I don't mind people being attracted to kids as long as they don't do anything about it.

I don't see how only thinking about it does any harm. As I say it only becomes a problem when that fantasy is realised. I also don't see how a solution is to lock these people up (unless they have realised the fantasy), you're not going to be able to change their mind by doing that.

exactly my point. is it their choice, or is it something that drives them? homosexuals (and in no way am i equating homosexuality with pedophilia, i am only using it as an example) have no choice as to their sexual orientation, so i would assume that neihther do pedophiles. in that case, i would opt to try to treat pedophiles rather than expect them to remain celibate on their own.
