Not me personally, but men in general tend to exaggerate , I bet you back in caveman days they were bragging about that time they caught a beast THAT WAS THIS BIG, when really it was this big

In all honestly however if I was into the chick I'd just dated, and by 'into' I don't mean, well you know, I'd be calling back the next day, even the same evening on the way home.

And girls, don't be afraid to go after that man, don't wait for him to call you, because again , knowing men, we'll get distracted by something or other (cars, beer, other women) and forget to call for a day or two, so don't be afraid to dive right in if you want a second date.

Back on subject, 2 days is optimum. If you call the day following the date you will be seen as hopelessly needy and probably a potential stalker. Ya gots to give the girl time to think about you for say, 24 -30 hours and just get to that edge of, "Ah dammit, he's not gonna call...." then you call. It's a tension/dynamic social engineering concept.

If you're worried about being too agressive, you can be ...sly... about it, but personally, I'm a fan of directness. Leave a message:

"Hey John, I had a good time Saturday, but I haven't heard from you. If you lost it, my number's 555-5555. Ok? See you."

It's short, sweet, non-aggressive (if you want to be chased

), gives him your phone number in case he really did lose it, etc.

As for the original question, I'd call either when I said I'd call, or about 24 hours later. I don't like this 'dating game' stuff.

seriously, I've always called when I say I'll call. And I always ask if I can call. That's they key. At the end of the date say, "Hey, I had a great time. Can I call you again, say on Thursday? Maybe we could out again, there's a cool band playying at *****'s on the 18th."

I don't really follow that rule, I just go with my heart. If I feel like talking to them then I call. I don't create rules for love. Also I agree with the poster above who says he asks if he can call. If I ask and don't plan on calling for a couple of days then I say so. I don't need a woman holding by the phone nor do I want to do that to someone. Not all guys think this way unfortunately. There are some real dirt bags. If it bothers you he hasn't called then I would say move on. Obviously there is already a communication problem early in the relationship and means he is either playing games (which you don't want) or you are not important enough for him to call back (which you don't want). Time to move on.

We went out Sunday night..... He called Sunday night. We went out Tuesday... He called Tuesday night and he said he would speak to me Wednesday. Today is Thursday..... I sent him a text just saying I hope his back feels better (he hurt his back) and no response.

Really depends on the person and how things played out.
The 2-3 day max limit is true if you have a touchy feely type on your hands. If the person is a bullshitter (much like myself), then having an open ended follow up committment / agreement at the evening is generally best.
