wmv file won't play

I have got Winamp version 5.09 and I am not able to play .wmv files. If I transfer the file to another computer I am able to play it, but it won't play here on my Windows XP Home computer. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Larry

you mean you are able to play it on another computer through winamp?

Thanks, I installed it and came up with "The software you are trying to install has not passed Windows Logo testing... will not be installed." I tried to play the wmv file and of course it wouldn't play.

WM 9 codecs said that?

Does the video play in windows media player on your computer?

If not, does anything pop-up? and what version of windows media player do you have? if you have 6.4, try the very last download on that page.

that is very weird for windows to block its own downloads.

If I try to play it using Windows Media player 10 it keeps coming up saying that it isn't installed properly. I have installed it numerous times and I always come up with "The software you are trying to install has not passed Windows Logo testing... will not be installed." Consequently it won't play anything either. What's this with the Windows Logo Testing anyway? Maybe I have to re-format my drive and start all over?

perhaps download wmp10 and try a reinstall. very weird, its a good question for microsoft tech support. i dont think a reformat is called for yet, unless you really need to do some spring cleaning

Maybe some of the suggestions there will help...

Before I replied last time I tried to uninstall it (it wanted to roll it back) and the roll back failed. So I tried re-installing again and came up with the same message 9 times - then at the end of the install it said it had failed. Thanks for you help.
