Since installing Winamp 2.75, the program won't close. It appears to close, but stays in memory. The only way to close it seems to be to press CTRL-ALT-DEL and then forcing it to close by selecting "WinAmp 2.75" and then clicking on the end task button.
I didn't have this problem with 2.74.
I use a PIII 850 with 192 RAM and an SBLive! running Windows 98SE.

HELP!!!

Any General Purpose plugins installed? (gen_*.dll)

If so, close Winamp, goto the Winamp\Plugins dir & disable them.
Temporarily rename them with the OFF extension, eg.
gen_mircex.dll.off

If there's a file in there called gen_nomad.dll, delete it ASAP.
This is a well dodgy plugin that CreativeLabs have been shipping with their SBLive driver updates and has been known to cause a whole heap of problems.

No luck. I only had one gen_*.dll file in the plugins directory and it wasn't the Creative one.
I renamed it gen_*.old anyway, but it had no effect on my problem. Still, when I close Winamp, it won't close. I have to forcefully end the program using CTRL-ALT-DEL.
Even when I try to shut down my computer after using Winamp, I get an error saying that there is still a program running and asking if I want to wait, end task, or cancel.
This is really annoying.

Are you sure that there's no icon in the systray? (eg. Winamp Agent)
I take it you click "stop" b4 closing Winamp?

Anyway, the simplest way to fix it is . . .

Uninstall -> Reinstall procedure:

Backup the Skins dir & any 3rd party plugins (vis, input, etc)
If relevant, also backup the bookmark list (winamp.bm) & any saved EQ presets (.Q2 & .EQF files)
Uninstall Winamp (via Add/Remove Programs)
If you installed support for it, first uninstall MJuice Components.
Delete the Winamp dir (and MJuice dir, if relevant).
Delete C:\Windows\winamp.ini
Reinstall Winamp
If you want, you can get an older version from http://www.winampheaven.com

Try the default setup at first *
If this works ok, add your backups one by one.
Close & reopen Winamp inbetween each change.
(Basically, Winamp needs to be closed b4 modifying the contents of the Winamp dir)

* Naturally, you can change/uncheck the prefs in the final setup screen, eg. Associate with files/CD's; maintain associations; create shortcuts; etc.

Good luck!
