Need Help with M4A files

Hey Guys,

Need your help. My friend made me a CD of songs off his ipod. I tried to play them in winamp and the are not playing. The file format is .M4A and I thought winamp 5.32 would support it. What's going wrong??

O yea I also enabled M4A to play in preferences.

Thanks,

Chris

Maybe the files are DRM crippled, so you simply have no rights to play them.

Please install this and create a list of your installed plug-ins. Uplload the .txt file here.

Also, provide more infos about your system.

Is 24Bit support active in Prefernces -> Playback?

If possible, upload one example file to stashbox.org or sendspace.com. You can send me the link via PM, if you don't want to share the file with others.

www.stashbox.org is free hosting service, where you can upload files for free.

And you got me wrong. Download the tool in my link above, install it.

Go to Prefernces -> Plugins -> General Purpose -> One for Nunz v2.8.

Double click at the entry, check "Open text file once generated" and "Generate text file of all installed plugins".

Have you tried to disable 24Bit support?

It's just a standard AAC-LC .M4A file. Plays fine here.

Confirm that aacPlusDecoder.w5s (208kb) is present in the winamp\system folder
and libmp4v2.dll (164kb) is present in the Winamp root folder.

Too Confirm:

Yes both of these files are present in the correct folders.

Thanks,

m4a files on a network drive won't decode

I just purchased WinAmp Pro 5.32
I can not play or convert m4a audo files when they are on a network drive. If I copy them to a local drive or map the network drive to a logical drive letter eg.( x: ), they play and convert just fine.
When I attempt to AutoFill these networked m4a files from the library to my creative zen 1gb device, the WinAmp process hangs.
Is this a bug or a limitation?
thanks!

Hi everyone,

I am having the same problems with converting m4a files to mp3.
I tried everything that's mentioned above ... without success, so I got 3 questions :

1. Can a free download full version of Winamp read or convert m4a files ?

2. Is there a way of checking if these files I want to convert are dpm crippled ?

3. If 1. = yes and 2. = no, what do I have to do to be able to read or convert these files ?

Thx for helping me out!

No, the MP3 Encoder only works in the Pro version of Winamp, ie. it's locked in the free version and requires purchasing Pro to cover the MP3 Encoding licensing fee. Same for the hi-bitrate aacPlus (he-aac) encoder. All other encoders (lc-aac, standard he-aac, m4a, wma, wav) work fine in the Full free version.
