BUG: can't remove APE tags in "view file info"

you get a file that has multiple tags, like id3v1, id3v2, APE, lyrics, etc... in the ML, right click it and then click "view file info"

if you uncheck the id3 tags, then click ok, they WILL be removed properly from the file. however, the APE tags and some others WON'T be, (when they are unchecked).

obviously, thats a bug.

What are your settings in "in_mp3 -> config -> APEv2 and Lyrics3" tab?
Are the Read/Modify options checkmarked?

no, i already fixed the files with mp3tag. even if i had them tho, how could i get them to you? the msg board has very small attach limits.

yes. on the id3 tab, i unchecked "create id3v1 tags" and on the APE tab i unchecked create "APE v2 tags when writing metadata" and the dropdown choice is "retain existing header" when writing APE tags, but those last two might be default settings.

other than that, everything is checked.

I can reproduce this. If you remove the "Include APE Tag" checkbox in the File Info Dialog of a file containing an APE tag, after writing, the tag itself seems to be still there!

All the fields are cleared, though. But the checkbox remains checked and thus I think the tag remains present in the file!

in my case, the tag AND field's data persist. in other words, the checkbox has no effect, ergo, bug.

We couldn't repro it yet and you haven't provided an example file. Additionally you already fixed it with Mp3tag. Ergo invalid bug report.

it'd just be simpler for everyone if you post a screenshot of the 'APEv2 and Lyrics3' config page in the in_mp3 preferences so everyone knows what settings are being used as i was under the impression that the default config for APEv2 handling doesn't do any removal off settings, etc.

let me be clear:

EVERY file i come across that has APE or LYRICS or anything else that isn't id3 will not allow winamp to remove that tag as described above. EVERY FILE. ergo, BUG.

i use mp3tag b/c i have to do with it, what winamp will not do. just b/c i have since fixed files does not mean my bug report is invalid.

is ksuze imagining things too?

in addition to the screenshot attached, as i said above, on the id3 tab, everything is checked EXCEPT the create new id3v1 box. i believe i unchecked that, which is how i want it.

i can't say if my screenshot represents default settings or not for APE, but its also set the way i would think i would want it, to be able to remove those tags, but not create them.

got a file with lyrics and APE,

just grabbed it off LW. it has a lyrics tag, which in THIS case i CAN remove.

after doing so, only then does it reveal it also has an APE tag. the APE tag can NOT be removed by winamp, and the data in it persists.

is it b/c of mp3gain?

how do i upload this file? its a pita i can't do it here. is there a utility i could use to strip the audio data out so the filesize is smaller?

Lyrics3 tag editing has never been a native feature of Winamp.
You can enable or disable them via in_mp3 config -> APEv2 & Lyrics3 tab -> Read Lyrics3 tags

Hmm, okay....

So I unchecked "Include Lyrics3 tag in file" in the Lyrics3 tab of File Info, and clicked OK.
Now when I go back in, I'm seeing an APEv2 tab (with MP3Gain & ReplayGain data)

And right you are, when unchecking "Include APEv2 tag in file" then clicking OK
the APEv2 tab is still there (with same info) when going back into File Info

yep, i think thats a separate related bug... the APE tab should show regardless of whether or not there is also a lyrics tag. i think, (i can't say for sure, but i think this is true) that other files DID show both ape and lyrics tab/tags simultaneously.

i don't know how many different kinds of lyrics tags there are, i don't use them and always strip them.

Egg, i'm pretty good at catching and reporting bugs for you guys... how come you don't respond to some of the other bugs i report? the guys at slim let me file and even confirm bugs on their bugzilla.

UPDATE:

i downloaded some files that had id3v1, id3v2, and apev2 tags.

i then used the ML to mass edit their albumartist field. the changes show up in winamp, in the ML and also when i check each tag in the "view file info" dialog.

but when i view the files in mp3tag, the changes (which i made to the AA field) do NOT show up. the original value is there, and mp3tag is showing me the APEv2 tag info only, (it only displays one tag layer at a time)

so i deleted the apev2 and id3v1 tag, and left just the id3v2 tag, and now the correct info displays.

so i believe winamp may have a problem editing ape tags in any kind of way, not just deleting them. worse, the data shown on the ape tag in view file info was apparently untrue!

thoughts?
