Winamp-mobile

I've always thought it would look sweet to have some sort of customizable visualizer output in a car/truck. Then it hit me: it would be so llama-whipping good if I could run Winamp (and AVS) in a car. Imagine playing CD's, mp3's, etc. while driving down the road, an El-vis preset going full-tilt on an LCD screen, maybe even engineer some beat-synchronized lights on the exterior (probably beyond my ability) ...mmm. I could even rig up a wireless connection and download music on the road!
SOOOOOOOO.... what do you all think? What kinds of LCD screens (640x480) would work? How fast would the PC powering it need to be for a nice, possibly pixel-doubled, decent frame-rate fullscreen image? I'm currently thinking about a small comp that could fit in the space where the stereo currently is, with some sort of lcd screen, that possibly could be hidden/folded out for use. Would I need a nice graphics card? And what about sound quality? Could Winamp pump out the sound like the average car stereo? Would I need an expensive sound card for comparable sound? I'm not really an audiophile, so the sound doesn't have to be perfect... any feedback on this idea is much appreciated. Thanks!

i thought this was gonna be another "WHEN THE HELL IS WINAMP GONNA BE ON POCKETPC?!?!" thread

get a MiniPC and get a nice small sized mobile LCD screen and you can take winamp wherever you want

also, I have the TX1 MiniPC, those r0x0r.

A 200w 12>240(or 115)v inverter, a standard atx psu, a via epia board and cpu combo, a hard drive and a stick of ram is all you need. Mount it somewhere in the back, mount a trackball in the console and keep an rf wireless keyboard in the glovebox. You could also hack apart a multimidia keyboard and mount the control buttons in the console too.

Should be able to do it for less than us$400 plus display.

Remember that you'd need an inverter to run it in a car though bizz, which would add about us$100 to that.

no, inverters only cost about $20-$30 at most here, that or I can buy a $10 12v car cigarette lighter adapter for it

AVS will be choppy fullscreen unless you want to sacrifice quality.

Why would you want to be staring at AVS while driving? Shouldn't you be keeping your eyes on the road? Meh, have fun paying the repair bills if you decide to put it in.

JUST REMEMBER: If you get a small computer and put it in your car, don't leave it on for more than 5 minutes without the engine running! It will drain your battery! It happened to me.

Oh BTW, the only reason I put a computer in my car is for winamp! I always play lama.mp3 when I turn it on =)

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Does anyone have info about a good LCD screen to use? Also, I may mount the screen so the driver can't see it. And what about the wireless internet connection? Any ideas?
