Anytime you're trying to incorporate 562 year old technology into your network, things are bound to get a little weird.

Fuck, Windows 98 is a bitch.

Printers suck. Everything about printers sucks. The cables suck. They're too long, or too short. They're a pain to get on the network, they're a pain to configure, they're a pain to fix anything on. Paper jams, ink problems, roller problems, idiot user problems.

There's no IT problem I hate more than a printer problem.

Yea, they're a pretty big pain to get onto the network. Not too many good things about the situation except that here, our group is responsible for getting and keeping them networked and User Services is responsible for paper jams and the like.

Printer accounting adds a whole second layer of hassle.

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway.

Does Vista solve any of this?

I hate having to call friends to help set up the networked printers, and I hate having to have the printers near the router since they're wired instead of wireless. Do they make printers with wireless communication?

:not about printers:

There is a 7 inch record.
One side of the record is 33 rpm.
The other side is 45 rpm.
Nowhere does it say which side is which speed.

@Chev:

If it ever gives up, I'd recommend one of Canon's CanoScan LiDE scanners. This is the one I have. USB only, no external power source, very thin and light, very inexpensive, and quite good quality.

Me too, the scanner is pretty good but everything else about the printer sucks. The only thing its good for is printing text and it does a half-a$$ed job at that.

Amen, preach it brother. Here at work I handle all the printer problems. You don’t know tough till a old dot matrix printer tries to eat your finger. On the subject of printers & annoyances, isn't it annoying when the printer prints out your document & spits out that extra piece of paper. I remember a Dilbert strip where Dogbert convinced someone that that paper is better because it's warm.

I fix one of the network printers at work about every other day. Stupid-ass spooler. Every time someone prints to the printer before it's turned on, the damn thing chokes...

Cute, I never worked at McDonalds, I did how ever did my fast food youth at Jack in the Box. Now I work for [company name removed per request] as a Manager for two of their properties. Sounds cool but both properties are next to each other. Funny, I started in the company 3 years ago as a lowly security guard, now I'm the Boss... well one of many bosses. Sadly, even the boss gets printer ink on his hands from time to time.

Don't you hate it when you have a friend thats about to throw something out and when you ask if you can have it intstead, they say no.

I hate that "even if I don't want it anymore, you can't have it!" mentality

No of the both hotels. I have to manage all the departments; I wish it were just security. That would only be about twenty or so officers to baby-sit. I'm still looking for an assistant to assist me with the smaller property.

I've got nothing wrong with writing research papers, because writing most any paper is easy for me; The only thing that annoys me with them is the actual "research"...Actually finding sources and incorporating them into the paper is something that I don't like doing (It'd be kinda hard for me to bullshit about women and black history anyway when our English professor has a degree in both )...My professor made it more annoying for our last research paper by limiting our sources to books and magazine essays/articles from the library database, and we couldn't use websites...

Although from that, I discovered one little annoyance that I'd like to personally add to this thread, and it's about how the format of a typed paper can look normal on one computer, and appear totally different on another...On my home computer, I had my paper all typed out and perfect; Perfect indentions for the works cited page, proper spacing, clean page breaks inbetween some of the paragraphs to make it look neater...

I was hoping to save it on my flash drive and print it off at the writing lab at JCC (Since we're low on printer paper and ink here at home), no more than 5 minutes in-and-out, and it ended up me taking 15 minutes just fixing the look of my paper...Everything that looked OK on my home computer looked all fucked up on the school computers, as if tabbed indentions and page breaks were inserted at any which place at random...It may have had to do with the margins, but everything was 1 inch all around as per MLA format, so I really didn't know what was up, and I don't care...I was done with that paper last week and I never wanna touch it again (Except for maybe when they're being handed back)...Never had a damn formatting problem on any of my other papers either...Fuck...

Old versions of MS Word used to piss me off because not only did MV88's problem happen, but for some reason it would print something that was tabbed/formatted completely differently from what I had onscreen, even if I used the same computer to print that I used to type.

Another niggling annoyance - the "fine print" of radio commercials - you know, where they talk real fast and read a damn documentary's worth of limitations, constrictions and restraints of the offer they're pushing. Just shut the fuck up and play the damn music.

Sadly the fine print on those commercials is legally binding if you chose their services.

A broken keyboard tends to be annoying; there’s one here at work missing a few numbers above the keys. Since you can still type the numbers with the ten key the company hasn’t changed it. Still it's some what annoying.

If you get into any legally binding contract without requesting it in writing (or having a good understanding of the terms), you deserve to be screwed.

Another s.n.a. (small niggling annoyance):

Beer that goes skunk before you even buy it, making your weekend get together a bit awkward...

Just a word of advice - always check dates and buy two brands to help prevent this, or buy stouts that get better with age. Perhaps I'll someday be wise enough to follow this advice.

Real estate agents who make stupid comments when showing houses. Upon noticing a two foot diameter area of mold on the kitchen ceiling, the agent said, "Oh, the "M" word. We don't like to use the "M" word."

I think Moron must have been the word he was afraid to say. Which is what one would have to be to do business with this asshat.
