Final Jump To File component for Winamp3
hey
here's the final version of the j-key component. Download - Jump To File feature for Winamp3 [Component ID: 132996] [Above link edited by Nunzio390 on 5-13-03 to point to published component, at author's request] Download Mirror - J-Key Component for Winamp3 [ver II - Updated Oct 1, 2003] [Above mirror link added by Nunzio390 on 9-01-03 in case the first Download link is a non-working link] Install it & simply press 'j' to use. Enter = plays the selected item, Shift+Enter = enqueues it. Check out the preferences window (CTRL+P) for more options. important: if you've installed an earlier version, delete it first (j.wac, j.maki & j.xml) improvements from last release: - faster on winamp3 build 488 (added item-cache) - fixed sorting problems - now the items are always sorted - added multiple playlist support (check out the prefrences window) - added some options in the preferences window known stuff: - pageup/down/home/end wont respond - sometimes it beeps when opened/closed suggestions & comments are always welcome.. enjoy it! yonido |

first, thanks alot..
this option is useful for people who's computers arent really fast or people with tons of entries in their playlist.. so the list isnt updated after every character is typed - but after you stop typing for like 250 miliseconds. you can notice the change after you enable this option - type fast and youll see the items arent update until you stop typing.. (that's how it goes in the F3 searching feature) thats it yonido |

ahhh i see. thats a kool idea. thanks
btw, the j window takes a long time 2 load (6 secs) on my machine (2.4ghz, 512mb ram, win xp,winamp3 b498), similar to the time the preferences window takes to load. is this cos of the wasabi architecture, and not the j window coding itself (the fact it takes the same time as the prefs window suggests this)? i thought it may be to do with the size of the playlist, but i tried sum tests and i dont think so. its just a bit weird that such a small componenet takes so long2load (specially with my spec machine...) great plugin again btw - i cant stop using it! i just chuck all my music files in2 one playlist (about 6,000)and use jump 2 search for the trak i want - kinda replaces the media library! ![]() I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory. |

No, internal dev build 498 just seems to be a bit slow all-round.
![]() J window appears instantly on public release 488, and likewise with dev builds 491 and 495. (491 is the most stable, 495 the fastest) (yeah, I know, I'm a nutter, I've got them all installed . . . but I still use 2.91 as my main player, heh.) |

hmmm thats weird.. i guess its kuz you're using the 488 build (which is pretty slow). im using build 491 and it takes less than a second to load (800MHz cpu, 384ram) with about 1100 playlist entries and so does the prefrences window..
but then again i also have build 488 installed, and it takes less than a second to load too.. so there something's wrong here. anyway -as you said, its got nothing to do with the j key component, which IS pretty small - kuz the prefs window also takes ages to load. try reinstalling winamp, with a newer build i wonder if any1 else has the same problem.. yonido |

new idea by Jens Pedersen: add support for winkey + j that would popup the search window from anywhere, even if winamp is minimized (like global-system-j-key. muwhhahah).
tell me your opinions, ill start workin on this soon yonido |

Great idea!!! I keep Winamp minimized a lot. I like listening to music in the background while doing other stuff (using Multimedia keyboard and RM-X to control Winamp), and hate having to bring Winamp back up every time I want to hear a specific song.
You'll have my eternal gratitude if you get this to work! The world is made of conflicts: good and evil, order and chaos, light and dark, hot and cold. All are essential to life. None can prevail for any length of time, or life will fail. In the end, the best any can hope for is balance. |

This is great, now all that winamp3 needs to make it complete is the ctrl V and shift V functions, then I'll be happy!

[its-ok]
hehe, im sorry that i didnt post it yet. its ready a long time ago, ive just tried to contact SOMEONE from the components' section @ winamp.com so he'll replace the old version with the new one (w/o having to make it a different component) but i couldnt find anyone. i see that you really like it - so ill put it on a temporary site.. download it from http://songloader.heliumhost.com/j.wac - and all you have to do is replace the old j.wac (that's been there after you've installed j.exe) with the one from the the url above. its located in the /wacs/ dir in your winamp3 installation directory. ENJOY : ) comments are always welcome. [/its-ok] y/o/n/i/d/o |

Hi, your plugin is really a cool idea and the missing "J"-Function was the only reason why I didn't update till now.
One thing: Is it possible to enqueue a song to another playlist than the currently active? I'm just wondering because I always have 2 playlists loaded, one with my complete song-collection and the other which is currently playing. So it would be very nice if I could search the files I want and then add them to the playing playlist. I don't even know what the silly function of winamp is that the songs that are enqueued are numbered. Cause you can't even sort the playlist by this numbers. Has anyone a solution for my 2-playlist-problem? Thanks a lot, regards, dh |

logically, you CAN do that, goto the preferences window (ctrl p) and goto the Jump2File section, make it search all playlists - and then you can use ctrlEnter to enqueue whatever you like..
but as far as i know, there's a bug in enqueuing songs in a different playlist (even if its not through the j key window - by alt+clicking..) .. try it & lemme know if it did u any good yonidonidonido |

Hi there.
This is definitely a step towards me using Winamp3, but it still doesn't emulate WA2's functionality completely! In WA2 you could search by the path to the file as well as the filename. This meant jumping to albums very easy for me. Could you please implement this, or give me some tips on how I can implement this myself? I really want to use WA3! Thanks ![]() |

yes, you're not the first that asked me to add support for this. that's what im workin on now (you need to understand that this is would cause a slower search, so i need to optimize it).
i think itll be ready soon. another person asked me to add numpad del-key support, he said that wa2 had it open the j search window also - does any1 find this useful? yonido |

Thanks for doing this
![]() Maybe you could just implement the ability to bind to keys? Edit: Also, I have another request, although it may seem picky. Would it be possible to be able to choose between listing files aphabetically (like it is now) and in playlist order, like xmms does? Listing files in playlist order is extremely useful if you want to jump to the beginning of an artist in your playlist. Last edited by Turbonutter; 5th August 2003 at 18:35. |

omg!
I just noticed this thread, and the new version. winkey+j rocks! This instantly makes J beat the crap out of any search feature on either wa2 or wa3. I noticed the xml and maki for J is included in wa3 #499, but no wac. Although a bit weird, does this mean J will be included in future builds? another Q, I know I'm nagging but I can't resist it ![]() ![]() good to see this is still beeing developed. -Plague |

i think ill publish it this weekend.. some guy mailed me asking for a feature to remove duplicate entries, because he's using multiple playlists that share some entries.
does anyone find this useful? methinks it would affect performance |
