eq on auto without auto on

I'm sure this is a simple question but i have so far failed to find the answer.

i have winamp 5.35
drO's plugin pack with some plugins removed (sorry DR)
and a tip's plugin which shows you info about the track on mouse over in the playlist.

my eq changes automatically even if auto isn't on. why?
i cant stop it i dont mind so much because most of the time it's good but i'd like to have some control over it.

i have looked a bit into replay gain but don't know if i should keep looking in that direction.
