ICQ's a bitch.

I've been trying to make a plugin i started ages ago. I got bored an with everyone making apps and stuff (cybersex, nullthing etc.) I decided to give it another try, I've got it all done apart from ICQ, it's still being a bitch, it wont refresh. I e-mailed ICQ and they sent me link to this ICQ API but nothing there lets me make iCQ "refresh" and look at the registry file where the Away message is stored again. Apparently gamesspy can do this so why can't i? can anyone help?

Try calling ICQAPICall_SetOwnerState() twice: the first time to set the user's status to "Online", and the second time to set it back to "Away" again.

I've never programmed with the ICQ API before, but I have a hunch this might do the trick of "refreshing" the user's away msg.

i hate icq, that's why i use Trillian

it's faster and less laggy than icq, while using less RAM and allowing multiple platforms (ICQ, AIM, MSN) at the same time..

quite a nice proggy

A minor problem with Trillian is that you can't share files as of yet. This feature should be available in a version soon, hopefully.

So, if you do use ICQ for file sharing, you are better off sticking with ICQ. If you don't use ICQ for that, then yeah, go for Trillian.

Would I be correct in saying that Imici is also becoming quite popular, and is an alternative to Trillian?

We talked about the plugin in the beginning, way back...
I haven't solved anything, except that i can get the title of the song playing. I actually talked to some guy who had coded a gamespy-program that interacted with icq, just like the real gamespy. He said that he would give me a bit of sample-code, but he hasn't.... grrr.... How far have you come?

Mr_Sax when you use trillian does MSN work for you?? when i had it msn wouldnt work for me and my friend?? it would log in but it wouldnt show messages sent or recieved??

any clues to get it workin??

Nofx: I have MSN working for me. I downloaded a couple weeks ago while they were redoing Hotmail and stuff, and it didn't work then. It works now.

And I want ICQ. Do I have to install ICQ before I'm able to register on it, or is there someway I can register without having to download the program?

u register inside the program, so it's not on the internet
and if u wanna bypass the icq page, try download.com and search for icq.

oh and the ads.. yea those are ez to get rid of 2

i use icq, but i hate it
every few months it will for no reason whatsoever refuse to access my account, whenever i try to change it to mine, it will say "ICQ has performed an illegal function" and shut down
i have to uninstall, reinstall and rebuild my list, and the damn address book will never work

never EVER uninstall ICQ, it'll do some wacked up stuff

just install over it, that always fixed it

ahhh back in the days when i was doing some serious cracking for it, i had to reinstall sooooo many times just to get it to work..

stupid icqcore.dll!

Did you buy the system from a retailer such as Circuit City or did you build it! cuase if you bought it from a retailer, I STRONGLY recommend that you delete and recreate the Primary DOS partition! That way, no more illegal operations will occur!
