no problem for me...

[edit] works in Netscape6, too. In fact, 6 loads the page faster.

I gave up using netscape for Vbulletin stuff ages ago - it was so much slower than IE and crashed too much. Sadly I had to turn to the dark side and install IE.

One day I'll get round to installing Mozilla, and remove Netscape 4 and IE!

I don't use netscape at all. I was just wondering why that happens. If Nullsoft wants to make their userbase as large as possible, they should try to find out the problem. A website locking up a computer? That simply shouldn't be.

Actually it's potentially embarrasing not to have the websites working with Netscape.

After all AOL are going to stop using IE in the next version of their software and put Mozilla into it instead (so said Computer Weekley) and it wouldn't do for AOL users not to be able to access the website of one of their subsidiaries...

i think the problem stems from Nutscrapes inability to parse large pages, or if it does, very very slowly.

i've loaded the forums over a t3 using nutscrape 4.7 and it took like 10 minutes to load the main page.

hmmmm....

Its because Netscape4.7 isn't updated for web standards. Thats why they invented Netscape6 to comply with the new web standards for displaying websites. Blame Microsoft for these web standards. . It was funny when MSN locked out non-Microsoft browsers last year. I figured that out when accessing MSN through a Netscape4.7x browser.

Do they want to copy Internet Exploder's IE5,, IE5.01, IE5.5 and IE5.5 sp1, or sp2?

There was no Netscape 5. Since IE 6 was already out, people would have thought that Netscape 5 would be on par with IE5. They didn't want that so the changed the name to "Nescape 6".

key point here?

aol are putting in mozilla/gecko/netscape6, it works fine. they are not going to force netscape 4.7 onto aol users, thats for sure.

and seriously, if you use ns4.7, you can expect much more than just winamp.com to be broken.

I use netscape 6, and the fourms load in 1 sec or less, unless the traffic in the dorm is really bad that day. then it takes 2sec to load. i will stop using netscape as my main browser when Bill Gates pries it out of my cold dead hands.

Netscape 5 was in development before the source code was made public. After the Mozilla development, it was no longer the original code, and it made no sense to call it Netscape 5. It had, truthfully, evolved far more than a single version number ahead.

Look at IE. Shouldn't version 6 be 4.2 or something . . . actually, shouldn't it be 2.2 or something like that? After all, where was IE 1 and IE 2?

Are you sure? I don't recall ever seeing a version 2. Maybe it came with that really stupid Win95 Gold with buggy Fat32.

I've used IE2.something. It did come with betas of Win95/ (chicago, was it? something like that, my memory is patchy).

I agree that 6 should be about 4.5. It's so the same as 4 but with all the security patches built-in.

I would use Netscape but I love my Google Toolbar too much

You can turn on the Google thing in the sidebar in Mozilla. For that matter, you can set an option in the advanced preferences so that the "search Google" option is always displayed when you type something into the URL bar. That's what I did. It's quite nifty. Type in 'anything you want to search for' and the option will pop down in the drop-down list. 'search Google for "anything you want to search for'

I don't know if that's exactly how it's worded, but it's closed enough.
