8 *European* National Leaders Call for Joint US-Europe action on Iraq

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...559907,00.html

Lest we begin to think that Germany and France are the voice of europe with UK as the sole dissenter, the US is in fact not "going it alone" as a rogue state to rout Iraq. 8 World leaders signed a resolution today expressing solidarity and support for the impending joint strike.

Who are these leaders, and their countries?

José María Aznar, Spain
José Manuel Durão Barroso, Portugal
Silvio Berlusconi, Italy
Tony Blair, United Kingdom
Václav Havel, Czech Republic
Peter Medgyessy, Hungary
Leszek Miller, Poland
Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Denmark

Suddenly the EU is looking slighty more.... hawkish.

Now is the time for all good Americans to come to the aid of their Country

I wouldn't get too excited. The Danes haven't done anything major on the military front since they conquered England

Must I be the one to point this out?

Spain - worthless
Portugal - ditto
Italy - fought with the Nazis in WWII and therefore not to be trusted
U.K. - Blair has been in bed with our presidents for years...everyone knows this
Czech Republic - even more worthless than spain
Hungary - Just pissed that most westerners spell their country "Hungry"
Poland - lasted about 5 seconds when they were invaded in WWII
Denmark - Meh...

possibly, but being good lovers means that your people don't have to compensate for their sexual insecurities by amassing a huge ungodly army the way american politicians have.

There isn't one...the point is simply that from a militaristic standpoint, those countries ARE rather worthless, skilled lovemaking or not.

to be fair, most of the countries have excellent militaries, in terms of training and general expertise. the americans like to go on about their military equipment, but the general state of their troops isn't as good... i mean, just look at how much of their state-of-the-art hardware they've managed to shoot their own people and other friendlies with...

yeah, and I've seen some military documentaries on TV, and some of the people in the army are in piss poor shape...struggling to do 20 pushups or a couple pull-ups...it makes me wonder how effectively they can really fight for their lives, though I guess that's what the technology is for.

but...he is right, except for italy, just because they wanted a slice of world domination doesn't necissarily mean they are bad now. rex wants world domination, but we still love him don't we?

some1's point of view seems to be about 50 years out of date. Now, these contries might not rival the USA or the UK in the size of their armies, but their opinions matter, and their military capability, collectivly is not to be sniffed at.
Besides, what counts more is the diplomatic power they leaverage, which is quite significant.

and yes, we do love the sexrex.

but the US doesn't need diplomatic power to attack iraq, neither does it need military power...it is only going to the UN to justify it.

So Xerxes sells us another bum steer.

Just over half of the EU leaders are speaking in favour.

The war is actually opposed by a consistently large majority of the people in all of the EU member states, including all the ones he claims to be in favour.

As to the comment that people in the Army (and the general Armed Forces of the USA) are in sorry shape: If they are an officer, they are in shape. If they are enlisted, they HAVE to be in the same or better shape as the O's. New enlisted recruits go through boot camp. You run your @$$ off. With pretty darn full rucksacks. You do many, many more pushups than physics should allow. You do more situps than Mr. Universe. In one day. If they are officer-wannabes, they do this and more. After all, leaders of men (and women) are supposed to be in better shape the Kenyans at the Olympics (times three). It ain't easy. The "rotund" people in the military are (mostly) desk jockeys (no offense, I may eventually be one) and do not have a job that requires them to run many miles with heavy loads (more than 3/4 bodyweight) under enemy fire for extended periods of time. Yeah, Americas soldiers ought to be in better shape, but it's kind of hard to run 22 MPH with a 90+ lb rucksack for several miles stopping occasionally to shoot at someone who wants nothing other than your gory demise (that's the pleasant version).

War happens. Deal with it. I don't like the sending of fathers and mothers, sons and daughters out to el-Hole in the Ground, Iraq to be shot at any more than the most ardent of anti-war activists, but SOMEONE has to fight for the ideals of the country and her DULY ELECTED leaders. If ya'll didn't want Bush, ya'll should've voted for Gore (shudder).

Flame me or not, but respect my opinions. Thank you.

Actually:

Italy - only trying to get what they want -> WWI - (foggy memory but i think they were neutral but went with nazi's afterwards)

WW2 - neutral at first but fought with Nazi's initially to gain the provinces of Tyrolio and Tivoli (right names?) but switched afterwards

Italy's army is shit though, but they have a somewhat decent/ok air force. Italy is also very trustworthy.

lol@22MPH running. that just sums up the whole post. (that's approx. the speed that the world 100m record is run at)

i didn't say america's army were in bad physical shape, incidentally. i was referring to the shocking lack of training they must have to time after time launch pre-emptive strikes on their own people. 95% of incidents are shockingly avoidable.

It's funny, the American army's individual soldiers are comparatively (to Canadian soldiers) less educated, but as a whole, they are very effective.

Canada's individual soldiers are highly trained/educated/etc but as a whole are shit.
