winamp playing videos without user interaction?
I noticed in my winamp5.05 playlist history last night that it lists different pornographic videos being played that I did not download or ever view.
I have been running zone alarm and ad-aware, and I use firefox 1.0. I don't open email attachments either. Overall, I thought I was pretty safe from viruses. I downloaded and installed Norton Antivirus 2005 last night and after it ran, if found over 250 infections. I have a cable modem and it looks like the computer is being given an internet IP address and not a NAT one from a router. How can winamp play files that no one using the computer is using? |

Waddya mean by history? What history are you looking at? In any event, Winamp does not arbitrarily play files that no one is using. Somebody must have viewed those videos without your knowledge.
Also, although the winamp.com site hasn't been updated yet and still offers the 5.06 download, as of 12-02-2004, at app 1:45 PM EST Winamp 5.07 was released and is available for download. The critical security bug has been taken care of, as well as other bug fixes (see the Changelog). Update: 12-03-2004 5:30 PM EST - Winamp.com has just been updated by Wen (webmaster) and 5.07 is now available directly from winamp.com So upgrade from 5.05 to 5.07, but before doing so make sure you clear out all viruses with Norton Antivirus using the latest signature files. 250 infections??? ![]() I also suggest running one or more of the 4 online Virus Scanners listed here...I'd try all the above online scanners if I were you. One may miss a virus whereby another may pick it up. All of them use the latest virus signatures. Also, make sure you have a decent firewall running at all times. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. I was reading at http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com...028293,00.html about a bug in 5.05 that would play files just by viewing a website. I think I got hit by something like that. I went ahead and upgraded to 5.06 today.

No. No. Forget 5.06. As I said in my post above, upgrade to Winamp 5.07 Full. Winamp.com still offers 5.06 for download because the site hasn't been updated by Wen yet (site webmaster who just got back from vacation). 5.06 still has the in_cdda.dll and .m3u handler bug. It's been taken care of in 5.07. All bugs are fixed in 5.07, including the one you just mentioned. But BEFORE upgrading, clean your system of viruses using those online scanners I also mentioned above.
