i use shoutcast and icecast meself
people are slowly taking more of an active interest in icecast & steamcast these days as the word that shoutcast death is imminent is getting round ,,,,,, allthough considering the update the other day sort of makes it apparently untrue however with these rumours going round it will give other programmers and innovators more enthusiasm to get different products out or better like steamcast and providors will be offering it as an more of an alternative very soon ![]() |

Running Shoutcast / Testing Steamcast
I am die hard nullsoft fan, but as the current behind the scenes issues and the true heart of nullsoft going its own way, I am able to justify changing if the desired features are available elsewhere... I have tried several other server, but Steamcast is by far the eaisest to setup, as it is very simular shoutcast. Alot more features, than the current version of shoutcast, however, if they can add a few requested features for internal stats gathering reasons, and the multiple relay source, I would be sold and would switch completely to steamcast. Just my too cents, but for the current time we are still running soley on Shoutcast. Echo34 - A music related irc network for the socially challenged. I imagine most people at the SHOUTcast forums would be using SHOUTcast, wouldn't you?

i have used them all and like them all in their own ways.
I prefer Icecast, and not because it is better , but it is open source. I have written some extention authentication elements to backend servers for clients and helps being open. Steamcast I have used, about 6 months ago, probably much updated since then and has some nice features. It was a little unstable, however was looking very good indeed. Shoutcast, is the baseline of a product everyone wants to emulate. It has some nice features and actually can do some nice stuff, if you use the configuration elements to their fullest, intros, stat logs etc. It is a clean interface with simple configuration file. I think they all have a part to play and some people definately use Icecast and Shoutcast together and I suspect SteamCast will become part of that. Just my 2 pence. BW Without open minds the world will die. Open yours and correct the mistakes you are making right now. |

I've been using Steamcast/Linux as a server for a stream for one of my large music community websites. Haven't had any issues with it in terms of stability. I love it!
