Please help me repair my file names/tags !!

hi

I recently (and stupidly) batch autotagged my entire 140 GB music collection with Winamp & applied the changes without checking they were correct tags !

Many of them are wrong (especially mixes etc.) - some labelled as Dame Vera Lynn etc. !!

However I have a backup of the entire collection & so replaced the affected collection with the original (pre-autotag).

But the files still have the wrong names, even though the file title, ID3 v1 & v2 tags are correct

What can I do to repair this ?

How did it happen that you replaced the file contents from a backup but could not restore original file names?

If you want to rename files based on tags, Foobar2000 can do it. You can specify your own format string, i.e. which fields go in the filename, in what order, and what separator characters there will be.
