great catch...

i would add that "get/retrieve album art" is missing altogether.

Alas, our deal with Rovi/AMG expired, so that feature was removed,
which is what caused the issue reported by lostinsound...

i think thats actually good news. why not get art from a general web search?

EAC has an EXCELLENT implementation of this. the way it does it is really good imo, check it out.

i am sure there are free sources out there the app could amalgamate from.

Are you using the native support or the Taskbar Integration plug-in?

DollarFalls: a plug-in list is one of things which is specifically asked for and required as per the first post.

Win XP drag & drop between playlists?

Hi,

WinAmp 5.63 Pro, clean install, no 3rd party plugins or skins
English language pack
Bento skin.
Desktop machine OS: XP SP3 Home 32 bit
Local: English UK
CPU: AMD XP 2400+
Memory: 1.5GB
Sound: integral Realtek ALC650
Graphics: GeForce 6200

WinAmp installed on C:\ Windows drive, Music on a separate internal drive in the machine.

Suspected bug in 5.63 that wasn't in 5.622 or 5.623.

Drag + drop single or multiple mp3 tracks from one playlist right hand pane to another in the left nav does not work: destination playlist hover highlight shows, and mouse pointer hover shows '+' symbol, but no entries are copied, no fault or other notification of error or anything untoward is shown.

Drag + drop from main Local Media / Audio artist or track listings into a playlist works fine.

Right clicking a playlist entry/ entries and using Send to / Media Library Playlists / (select a playlist) also works fine.

I uninstalled and re-installed 5.63, and restored settings from backup using the WinAmp backup tool. This made no difference.

I uninstalled 5.63 and re-installed 5.623 and restored settings using Winamp Backup tool: drag & drop between playlists worked fine. Re-installed v5.63 over the top of 5.623 and the problem returned.

I could not replicate this on a Win 7 SP1 64bit laptop, Core Duo 2.2GHz with 8GB RAM, clean install of WinAmp 5.63 with Bento: drag + drop between playlists works fine (songs were from the same drive as above on the desktop PC via a home network share).

I did replicate this on an Elonex WebBook, 1.6GHz VIA C7 proc with 500MB RAM, XP SP3 - first clean install Winamp, 5.63 with Bento, no 3rd party stuff. I used a single song, again from the shared PC drive on home network as above. Drag + drop between playlists didn't work.

Hope this helps!

Rob

is already reported a few days ago at http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....63#post2874063 (though there's not been anything done towards trying to fix it at the time of this reply). if it's really important then use 5.63 but use the ml_playlist.dll from the 5.623 installer.

"When loading multiple files, sort files by name" starts with last

"When loading multiple files, sort files by name" is enabled. When I select several MP3 files in Windows Explorer, then type "Return" : the tracks in the Winamp playlist start with last track, then all other tracks are sorted correctly :
12-Track12
01-Track01
02-Track02
....
OR
12-Track12
1-Track01
2-Track02

Configurations :
Winamp 5.63
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 and XP SP3 32-bit
English US
Classic skin

Thanks

i think thats an OS issue, not a winamp one. i think EAC or some app like that actually has a workaround for it as a pref in the app?

ok, i think it is EAC > Options > General tab. so seems to be an OS issue but one an app can "correct"

Whatever the reason, this is a nuisance. Have you tried this with the additional option to read metadata on load instead of on selection or play? I've got into the habit of using the right click (content menu) sort commands at the bottom of the playlist editor after adding tracks to a playlist.

I also find that the "Jump to File Extra" plug-in provides much more control over adding tracks to a playlist. It's very handy once you get used to it.

JTFE will not help with what appears to be a sorting issue within the Winamp core itself (though that's assuming that sorting is even being applied as it has _always_ been that the first item selected in multiple items in Explorer is the first one in the list when sorting is disabled).

True JTFE will not help directly with metatech's issue. But you can drag & drop to the JTFE queue window which can be setup to auto sort. Then the queue's contents can be added to the playlist as a list maintaining the sort order.

While certainly not as simple as a direct transfer from Explorer to WA, I only mentioned looking at JTFE as a possible alternative way of getting tracks into a playlist in a predetermined order. Especially since core WA functionality is not going to change any time soon.

Unless you are looking at the way the indicated option is working as a bug that you are willing to try to fix.

@daz : indeed, I have the same behaviour when the Winamp sort option is disabled. Probably Windows Explorer sends the list in this order to Winamp, but Winamp "sort" does a "no-op".

On XP, the problem is not reproduceable consistenly. To reproduce it more often in XP, if I select all MP3 files in a directory except the first one, the last one will appear first. Also, when Winamp is already opened, this seem to occur more often.

Thanks.

it's been something that has been reported on/off for over a decade whilst i've been using Winamp and with sorting disabled then it is expected as Explorer has generally done it in the way mentioned. when sorting is enabled i don't know what is the expected behaviour as i don't have the option enabled so maybe there is a bug but i cannot say for certain (and as i'm snowed under with the work i have to do, i am not going to commit to looking into this Winamp issue). you've logged it in the this thread which is about the best that can be done for the time being.

@metatech, On my system the last file selected will appear first most often followed by order of selection, sometimes (not often) it sorts by title. And forget about JTFE being any help. Drag & drop to the JTFE queue also adds the same files to the active playlist in the background.

@Aminifu : it is exactly as you describe. I have a simple workaround now : I first select the last MP3 file in Windows Explorer, then I extend the selection up to the first MP3 file, then type "Return".

It would have been nice if Winamp "sort" feature was able to circumvent this Windows annoyance. Maybe one day...

I'm not sure which component of Winamp is responsible (core or an official plugin), so I post the link in this thread.

I found a bug considered to be serious by several members. See this thread (especially post #7):

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=347734

I guess it is a combination of both: a bug in the MP4 input plugin AND a corresponding bug in the Winamp core's playback/playist logic, which results in this fatal behavior.

Maybe one of the official developers could have a look into this (that's why I chose to post it here again). Sorry for cross-linking / double posting this thread.

Best regards,
kzuse

Winamp becomes inaccessible when switching between multi-monitor and single display

Winamp 5.63
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: English
Skin: Bug occurs with Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel i7 2670QM @ 2.20GHz (8 cpu's)
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphics: Geforce GT 550M
Sound: Realtek HD Audio
DirectX 11

Problem:
I use a laptop for both at home and on-the-go use. At home I have a separate monitor, onto which I extend my display. If I am running Winamp on the secondary display, and I unplug my monitor in preparation for going mobile, all of my windows *except* Winamp migrate automatically to the primary display. Winamp maintains its location in the extended desktop environment, even if it is closed and restarted. This makes it unusable, unless I have access to my extra display.

I believe this is an element of the same bug reported above by Boris6 (post #11), whereby Winamp may become lost if the screen resolution changes, although he did not used the prescribed reporting format.

Method of Reproduction:
1. Run Winamp on a multi-monitor setup, and place it wholly on the secondary display.
2. Unplug the secondary display.
3. Attempt to switch to the Winamp task.

Window docking bug, or something

Hey there! I'm having issues with winamp windows.
The issue is this:
While Winamp is started and working and all windows are displayed, it won't
go in the back of some other window that I open. For example, while winamp is displayed
and i open some other window, like google chrome, or any other, it still stays in front of that window. It won't go inactive in back. Regardless of what skin I use, it is always like that.
I'm using windows 7.

NOTE: I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S MY COMPUTER OR IF IT'S A BUG.

I normally rip my CD's with Winamp but, when this dialog displays: ""What do you want to do with this CD: Play it on Winamp... Play it on bla bla"" I click "Play it on Winamp" and if it's open it crashes or if it's not opened it opens and crashes... BUT if I don't click anything and open the CD through Winamp without the dialog it plays and rips perfectly.... If there's a solution, what should I do? (Thanks)

Hi LeionKeY,

If you are talking about the Windows dialog that's asking what you want to do, you can choose the option to do nothing (when loading a CD) and Windows will not ask you anymore when you load a CD.

You can configure WA separately to play a CD when it is loaded. I have not had WA crash on my system when it is setup to do so. Although usually, I don't have any app set to automatically play a CD when it is loaded.

The problem is, that if I activate the option for winamp to automatically play when it is opened it also crashes... anyway thank you!

Maybe you are using a plug-in that is causing the problem. You can use the "One for Nunz" plug-in to generate a report of your configuration. Post it here and maybe a user or dev will be able to point out possible suspects.

With multiple monitors and Windows 8, Winamp icon is always on the primary screen even if the window is on a secondary screen.

Requirements to reproduce:
  • Multiple monitors
  • Windows 8

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Right-click the taskbar.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Select Show taskbar buttons on: taskbar where window is open. Also ensure that Show taskbar on all displays is selected.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Launch Winamp.
  6. Move Winamp window to the secondary screen.

Defect: Winamp icon stays on the primary screen, but it should move to the secondary one.

as i don't have Windows 8 to test this against, i'd have to assume from re-reading http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2...-monitors.aspx that it's determining the monitor Winamp is on based on the hidden classic window (which is generally hidden off-screen on the primary monitor).

does it work correctly if you use a classic skin instead of a modern skin? if it does then that would match with my assumption.

rightio, well not sure what can be done to resolve it for the time being other than somehow getting the modern skin engine to track the monitor the main modern skin window is on and update the position of the hidden classic main window (which if not done right would impact Winamp performance).

Speaking about multimonitor support, is inability to move Winamp window between displays with default Windows 7 shortcuts (Win+Shift+Arrows) is intended or bug? If first, what reasons behind this?

those shortcuts only work for certain types of windows and how Winamp does it's skinned windows just doesn't work with that system. so would have to say that its expected.

plus with a classic skin it'd just not work right at all and with modern skins, it would only be viable to do it with single-ui ones like Bento or cPro and from what i've just quickly looked for, i don't see there being any obvious notification message to be able to handle it.

What about WM_WINDOWPOSCHANGING coupled with Multiple Display Monitors Functions?
EDIT: Also http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2...my-application may be helpful
