After installing the updated drivers did you reboot the computer?

Otherwise....

1. Winamp > Ctrl+P
2. Plug-ins > Output
3. double click 'DirectSound output'
4. Driver tab
5. make sure the device in the drop-down list correctly reflects your soundcard

Further DirectSound config tweaks....
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....26#post1212926

-and/or-

1. Control Panel
2. Sounds & Audio Devices icon (or MultiMedia Icon)
3. Audio tab
4. in 'Sound playback' make sure the 'Default device:' drop-down box correctly reflects your soundcard

Although it is not necessary, close down Winamp, Windows and reboot the computer after making any of the above changes.

What happens with other media players (ie Windows Media Player)? Can you play any files?

If you have not done so already and to be on the safe side, run your virus scanner with the latest definitions/signatures.

Also please post a reply and provide system specs as described here. Have you recently installed any new software or hardware?
