afaik, the plugin is included in the full download package...

Thanks DJ Egg!
-> but...

I have downloaded and installed "MAC_410.exe",
-> I tried to play one of my *.ape file
-> but Winamp (my version is 5.621) shows the song's duration is zero
-> and cannot be played!

so what else must I do to make Winamp to play ape file?

Thanks for any kind of help!

the installer for the ape plug-in isn't run automatically (from what i remember) and requires going into the folder monkey's audio files were installed into and then running the ape plug-in installer from there (though i cannot remember the name of the installer in the folder).

Thanks DrO!
-> it's done!

-> the ape plugin for Winamp can be found right under Monkey's audio installed directory
-> the plugin file name is "Winamp Plugin.exe"

don't listen to 'LS Jack' - that means installing an older version of the in_ape plug-in which is even less supported by the monkeysaudio dev than the current one already is.

Ape plugin is working now, but...
-> APE decompression error
-> Winamp then stopped playing and displayed the corresponding error message
-> pls. see attached screen capture

I am not sure if this is the problem of the *.ape file or it is the problem of the plugin?
-> as I don't have another ape player to verify it!

If this is the problem of the ape file,
though currently the ape plugin provide the option "Ignore Bitstream Errors",
is it possible to rewrite Winamp to add a feature to let itself continues to play after displaying the error?
-> it would be great if a silent option is available so that no error sound is emitted.

Thanks for any kinds of help!

the issue is with the plug-in rather than Winamp as Winamp doesn't know anything about ape files without the plug-in doing all of the work.

from the screenshot, my first guess is that it's due to the unicode filepath from the screenshot but i'm not too sure and really this is something better directed at the plug-in author.

this might not sound helpful, but i would use a utility and convert all my apes to flacs.

Winamp supports FLAC with playback and encoder support (as long as you've checked it during setup) so there's no need to install anything else.

however you may not be able to natively go from APE to FLAC in Winamp due to the APE plug-in not supporting all of the required api for conversion (note: i may be wrong but i'm not able to do a test to see if that's true).

its in the prefs in winamp. just choose flac instead of aac or mp3.

if its not listed as a choice, reinstall checking carefully to make sure everything needed is checked.

the main thing you need to do imo, is find a good free utility to convert the APEs to FLACs. check out "frontah" or "multi frontend" and see if those work for you.

A few more steps

DJ Egg was right but provided very little instructions. First some versioning, this worked with Monkey's Audio 4.22 on Winamp 5.666. Install both while paying attention to both (installation) directory. I suggest not running, or closing, Winamp. It's unnecessary to run Monkey's Audio at all, go in it's (installation) directory and run Winamp Plugin.exe which will likely give you a permission error, if so run as an administrator, then provide the Winamp directory. There should be no additional step, Winamp should now open .ape as it would .flac, that is smoothly.
