Has "View file info..." been chagned recently?
Hi!
When I use Alt+3 I usually come to Winamps built-in "view file info" but after upgrading to v 5.12 all I get ins the same screen I get when you right click a .mp3 file in Windows Explorer. What's going on? Thanks! |

Nope. Sounds like you installed a third-party MP3 decoder like mpg123, MAD, or MP3Pro. Try reoving any third-party plugins installed.

Aha, that must be it! I recently tried out mpg123 after a friend of mine told me it supports SSE2 and gives you better quality on my Augidy 2 ZS card. Well, so far I can't hear any differences so I guess it's not worth it. Any comments on that one? Or maybe there are thousands of discussions of this plugin already? |

You won't hear any diffrence. And all SSE2 could possible do it make the MP3 decoding faster, not sound better. And on any computer new enogugh to support SS2, the Mp3 decoding will maybe take .5% of your total CPU power.

So even if I put the output to 24bit (I can do that with the .flac-plugin as well) I won't notice any differences?

That is koopas wild guess that one enthusisast could hear a difference. There are no listening tests that proove that.
The only REAL "practical" advantage that in_mpg123 had over the Winamp decoder was REAL gapless playback, but this advantage has vanished now with Winamp 5.2. "Technically" (=scientifically) in_mpg123 might be superior though. eeeee eeeeeee eeeee eeeee eeeee 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 88 8eee8 8e 8 8 8eee8 8e 8 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 88 8 88 8 8eee8 |

If you enable gapless playback, does that mean that the mp3-file is 100% "cached" and therefore won't skip etc? Also, does this work for .flac? Thanks! |

I don't know, I tried 24bit output and hear no difference, and my ears are not as bad, as you maybe think. ![]() Most people hear "24Bit" and think it must be better, if they really can hear any difference, or not. For me placebo.
