Winamp settings wrong

Hi. I got this strange thing when i play say mp3 file on winamp and the quality feels bad with it. When i play the exact same file with Vegas Audio the quality feels so much better. But it's the same non edited file. I use Winamp Lite and i've always had this problem so it's not a version problem or anything like that.

I've had Winamp for a long time and never really changed the settings so always used the defaults and thought it's the best way but the day i tried Vegas Audio i realized i should start changing them. I'm not good with changing the volume settings and the problem could be something very simple.

I keep my volume bar usually at around 13-40% in Winamp and everything on the equalizer i keep at dead even. I wonder if keeping the Winamp volume at those numbers and changing the volume up and down from elsewhere for example my headphone volume hurts the quality of the sound?

So anyone experienced something similar or know what i'm doing wrong?
