The background is determined by windows-elements.png. It's the box found at x="0" y="114" in the image.
The text color for that has to be changed via:
<groupdef id="wasabi.dropdownlist.main.group" inherit_content="1">
<sendparams target="dropdownlist.text" color="41,98,151"/>
</groupdef>
I just include this at the end of my standardframe.xml.
Hope this helps,

where do you place your elements-d.png and how do you link to it from your skin.xml to get it to work?

Elements-d.png is just what I called it to keep it separate from the modified one for the tutorial skin. Usually the file is called Window-elements.png. I keep mine in a folder called "standardframe" and link to it via studio-elements.xml. You then include studio-elements.xml in your skin.xml. I had meant to provide that file with instructions on the tutorial, but I haven't had time to work on that for awhile. I'll try to add that tonight.

Okay, dodger, I've updated the page to include better directions and a link to the file needed.
